Nightfang Pack House - Seraphine's Chamber
My hands shake as I read the letter.
The first phase is complete. You have done well.
The words blur before my eyes, and I have to read them again. And again. As if repetition will change their meaning.
It doesn't.
I clutch the parchment so tightly that it crumples at the edges. The fire crackles in the hearth, casting dancing shadows across my chamber walls. Outside, the moon hangs low and heavy, watching me.
Judging me.
"You have done well."
The words echo in my mind, and I want to scream. I want to tear the letter apart. I want to burn it and pretend it never existed.
But I can't.
