Ariyah's POV Mira's Cottage One week after Lucian's birth --- His eyes flicker silver in the darkness. I freeze, my hand hovering over his tiny chest, watching as the light fades and then returns. It's subtle, barely visible, like moonlight reflecting off water. But it's there. "Lucian?" I whisper. He blinks up at me, his impossibly blue eyes now clear and innocent. For a moment, I wonder if I imagined it. The exhaustion of new motherhood is overwhelming, and my eyes play tricks on me constantly. But I know what I saw. "You're not ordinary, are you?" I murmur, stroking his cheek. "You were never going to be ordinary." He yawns, his tiny mouth opening wide, and snuggles deeper into my arms. My heart aches with love so fierce it terrifies me. I would burn the world for this child.
