Something was different. Jess couldn’t put his finger on what it was, but something was definitely different. They were back on the flight deck. Jess was in the pilot’s chair, of course, with Ali and Dash in the seats behind. Sal was once again in the row behind. Nothing different there. The best Jess could manage was that things felt different. The others seemed calm, relaxed with each other. Sal’s distance and silence had evaporated.
