I laid in bed, trying to get myself to fall asleep, but it was something that just wasn’t happening, no matter how much I wanted it to. I had tried literally everything, from trying to count sheep, to simply laying still, to going as far as trying to count the cracks and creases in my ceiling and on the walls, but it hadn’t worked. I couldn’t deny the fact that it was something that disappointed me, because I wasn’t used to my efforts not working, but I should have been used to the fact that I had difficulty sleeping by now. At some point, I decided that I needed to call my mother. I knew that the last time that I had spoken to her, I had left things on rockier terms than they had needed to be, but that hadn’t changed anything. It still meant that I needed to call my mother.
