Chapter 6

I am now regretting my actions. Why did I yell at her. The foolish thing is; the house belongs to her not me. I chased her out of her own house. But she deserves every bit of it. How dear her say things like that about my father. She accused my dad of theft after all. She must have been mad to think I will take it laying down. I continue to boil in anger and when I couldn't take it anymore I just come out of the house. I go looking for her. I really want to know what she means by all the things she said earlier. I go straight to the main building. I opened the door to see an all white space. It is spotless from top to bottom. My anger was just to much but my curiosity more. I began to call her name" Keke!Keke!!Keke!!!" When I got no response I move further into the rooms and kitchen to my surprise I can't find her. When I knew for certain she wasn't in here I leave the main building worried. Where has she gone to?

I hope she is not in danger? All the anger I feel turns into worry. I began to check around the compound. At first I go straight to the flower garden, she is not there, then I go to the vegetable garden, still not there. I became very worried. What have I done? I am so foolish I should have listened to her instead of yelling. Where could she be? I ask my self again.

Just when I am at the brink of screaming I remember when she said she has an orchid at the back. I run down there between the trees I see a small figure bent over on a wooden swing like chair near a small lake. I hear sobbing. Immediately I stop in my tracks. What have I done. I was taught by my nanny never to make a lady cry. I rush down to her. I seat beside her and pull her into a hug. She cries and cries for a long time . I just keep saying" I am sorry. It won't happen again." I pat her back till she got her self under control. " I am trying to save you from going down the same path your father went and all you can think of is to shout at me." She says. Now I want to know what she means by all these. " Tell me everything you know about my father I mean everything. Don't spare my feelings"

" Do you want to know how your mother died?" Now I am interested at what she was going to say. I nod my head. " Your father is a very abusive man." I know this already because at every little mistake he beats me up and lock me in what he calls the dark room. I don't say anything. " When your mum and your dad got married your mum was the most beautiful woman. She was slim fair and beautiful. Your dad genuinely loved her and she loved him perhaps way to much. Your mother had a company. That her parents left behind for her. She worked very hard to get it to the international space that it occupies today. Your father on the other hand is a very egotistical person that only cares about himself. He began to get jealous of your mother's achievement. It started with him always getting physical when ever she comes back a little late. She lived with it and continue the marriage because she didn't want to be mocked as a divorcee. I wish she left the moment it started. Instead she went ahead and put your father as the general manager of the company, to see if it will make him stop. Slowly he started to get her to stay home more often. He was slowly stealing from the company and syphoning money. Your mother got pregnant with twins . The day she got the doctors report she decided to go tell him the good news at work . She was expecting to meet her husband working. What she met instead was her husband on top of his secretary having his way with her. When she entered she screamed. Your father just hissed and told her to get out. In that shock she went outside and found her accounting officer who begged to talk to her. She followed him to his office and there he showed her how her husband has been stealing from the company. She was shocked. She just thanked the accountant and left. That night, your dad came home very late smelling like alcohol. She began to cry and was asking him why he did all these. His response was a big slap that lead to a heavy beating. She was terrified it seemed as if she didn't know the man she got married to. Unknown to him when she started noticing all his odd behavior she had gone ahead to will the company in the name of her unborn children. The next morning when he left for work she quickly packed her things and went to the house she built as a birthday gift for him. She was supposed to give it to him the coming week. Thank God she had not shown him yet. He never came back to look for her. She also left the company alone for a while. When she had her twins she was very happy. She was content because she made sure all the people working under her put an eye on her husband. When she saw that he was moving the company forward thinking it was now his own, she kept her cool and never went there. She always sang to you and your sister everytime even in your sleep. She enjoyed doing it. One day it all went sore when she met your father while she took you to buy products in a grocery store carrying only you because I was at her neighbors place. He began to question her about the baby and when he found out it was his, he started to drag the baby with her. She also told him she lost your twin in other to keep her a secret. She insisted and left that day untouched. The next time they met she was carrying you while she left your sister with her neighbor again because your sister was found of playing with them. While you where more attached to her. This time it was on a lonely road. Your father beat her to stupor and carried some armed men to threaten her life. She was so scared so she ran away crying. She went back with her baby girl into hiding. Atleast she had one of her children with her. Years later... She was on her way to check out her company when she met with some goons sent by your father to kill her so he can take over her company. They beat her almost to death and left her body in a dark alley near her street. Her daughter felt she should have gotten back by then and went in search of her. Only to find her mother near Dead in a lonely alley. Before she died she had told her everything giving her daughter a key to a safe containing awritten and video will . She mandated her daughter to find her son telling her where to find all this information about him. After telling her everything she died in her daughters arm. Her daughter with the help of her neighbors helped to give her a good burial at the back of her compound. Her neighbors helped raise her daughter and established her. This is how her daughter got to where she is today"

I didn't know what to believe anymore. Does she know what she was saying. " How do you know all this? I ask. Her reply shocks me out of my wits. " I am Omokehinde Rachel Macaulay"....
