Distance Between Us

CHAPTER TWO

She got dressed despite the unbearable pain she was feeling.

“Good morning mother , good morning father “ she gave a slight bow to her parents . Her father gave her a nod but her mother didn’t bat an eye lid at her .

“Good morning sister , trust you had a wonderful night “ Ariel greeted .

“Yes I did “ she smiled.

“Enough with the chat let’s have breakfast “ mr Jellal said and the servants immediately walked in with dishes of different kinds.

The main dish is rice and vegetable stew , a chicken sauce as appetizer and some fruits. The servants began to serve the dish .

“Miss Nina why don’t you go back to the kitchen and allow Gia serve the food “ Janet said .

“What nonsense is this ? How dare you ask my daughter to serve the dishes ?” Jellal’s voice was filled with fury and anger .

“But darling it is only right that she learns , she won’t remain with us forever ?” She tried to coax her husband .

“True “ he then turned to the other servants and said “you all should leave , Ariel and Gia will serve us today “ .

“Yes master “ they bowed and left .

“But darling....” he raised his hand to stop her from speaking .

Ariel wasn’t happy but she had no choice seeing that her mother could not save her . She set the plate while Gia served the food , it took quite some time but they were finally done .

They had breakfast in silence . After breakfast; the servants came to take the plates away ; Janet dared not say a word else she would be punishing her dear daughter , she could only fume in silence as she saw Gia walking happily to her room to rest .

“Gia “ she heard her mother call just as she was about to enter her room. She inhaled.

“Yes mother”

“I want you to accompany your sister to the mall , you can get whatever you want as well” .

Gia’s face lit up , she couldn’t remember the last time her mother asked her to go shopping .

“Really mother?” She asked unable to believe what she just heard .

“Yes dear , you’ve been a good girl so you should spoil yourself a bit “ she gave a sinister smile .

“Thank you mother “ she said and walked into her room . She quickly got dressed. She picked out a bright blue Jean, a white crop top and a blue jacket to match ; she wore a pair of black Sandals and a black cross bag . She looked at her self in the gigantic mirror across her bed and smiled in satisfaction.

She hurriedly went to the car to wait for Ariel ; it didn’t take long before she saw Ariel walking towards the car .

“Ready for a shopping spree?” She asked with smiles .

“Yes I am “ . The two girls were so happy as they giggled through out the trip to the mall .

Somewhere in the mansion, a woman made a call .

“They are on their way to the wall , remember the one on blue is the one , take her out “. She ended the call with a mischievous smile.

“Do you think it suites me ?” Gia asked as she did a little spin in front of the mirror .

“Oh my God , you looking amazing” Ariel squealed .

“Sir , please put it in the bag for us “ she beckoned to the man attending to them. She handed the beautiful red dress to him and he packed it in a fancy bag .

“Let’s go ?” Ariel nodded .

The two girls walked out of the mall with their hands inter-twined , they had no idea that were being watched .

“They are on the move , guys stay alert “ a man spoke into a petite walkie- talkie .

They got into the car and drove off , after driving for 10 minutes Gia noticed a black car following them .

“Chauffeur, I think there’s someone following us “. She said as she kept looking back at the car.

“Call 911”

“Yes ma’am “

He brought out his phone to dial the number when they suddenly heard an explosion from underneath the car and in a split second the car had tumbled over . Gia and Ariel were still conscious but the chauffeur had already passed out due to the impact .

“We need to run” Gia said as she pulled Ariel out of the car through the window and began running . They ran into a thick bush, the men ran after them and began shooting aimlessly into to bush . One of the bullets hits Gia on the leg and she falls .

“Gia” Ariel screamed in fear. “Are you okay ?”

“I’m fine ari but you need to run “ she replied with a shaky breath .

“I can’t leave you here “ she broke down in tears .

“Ari , look at me , “ she cupped her sisters face with her bloodied hands. “You need to go and find help , okay ? If you want to save me , you need to run “

“I can’t do this alone , please “ she sobbed .

“Ari , go “ at this time the sound of the billet was getting closer .” Go Ari , now “

Ariel ran leaving her sister behind . Gia braced herself for her death as she heard footsteps , she closed her eyes out of fear and passed out .

“She’s awake “. Gia could hear a woman’s voice , she opened her eyes slowly but shut them almost immediately due to the light , again; she opened her eyes slowly but this time she could see clearly , there was a middle aged woman and a man in the room , she looked around ; she was in a room , not too fancy but nice , it was painted in red and there was a big mirror by the corner of the room , she was confused but she was happy she wasn’t in the bush with unknown gun men trying to kill her .

The middle aged woman left the room to get her something to eat , as soon as she saw the food , she began salivating. The woman served the food on the bed and she ate the food hastily , and laid down to rest .

The next day , after eating , she summed up the courage to start a conversation.

“How long have I been here?”

“About 3 months “

“3 months ??” She asked in shock .

“Yes , we found you very close to our farm and we took you to the hospital, the doctor said you were in a coma , and it will take a year to revive you but thankfully you woke up after 3 months “ she explained.

“Oh okay , May I at least know your names?” She asked trying not to offend them .

“I’m Doris , this is my husband Thomas “

“Thank you Doris , for taking care of me “

“You are welcome honey “ she smiled . “We have a daughter , she is 5years old , her name is Gina , you’ll get to meet her soon “ she smiled as she spoke .

“Oh , wow that’s nice , I can’t wait “

“What’s your name ?” Thomas asked . That was the first time Gia heard him speak since she arrived .

“My name is Gianni Jellal “ she said .

“Hmmmmmm” the couple exchanged glances .” You must be the dead daughter then?” He asked .

“Dead ????” She asked in shock .” So they didn’t look for me ??” Hot tears ran down her cheeks as she spoke .

“It’s okay dear “ Doris comforted her ,”you can stay with us , you don’t need to go back “ she added .

“Thank you “ she said still sobbing .

Later that night , she sat on the bed and looked through the window , she was worried but at least she found peace , this could be her new family .

— I’ll miss my nanny but I guess this is the best — she clutched her pendant , laid on the bed and closed her eyes to sleep .
