ALLISON
“You wanted to see Alpha Lazar's fiance right?” Helen said as she walked into the library. How did she know that I was in here? Scent, obviously. Werewolves always find a way to track people. I shouldn't be surprised.
“I never said I wanted to see her, Helen. Can you please leave me the f**k alone?”
“I'll only let you go if you leave this Pack. You are not welcomed here.” She said in a stern voice and I just rolled my eyes. She truly thought she had authority. Crazy b***h!
“Well, you're not in the position to tell me to leave, Helen. Get that into your head. I'll only leave when I want to.” I shot back and the next minute, she burst into laughter.
“Then you should wait until Miss Marga gets here.”
“Even your Miss Marga or whatever her name is, cannot ask me to leave. As a matter of fact, the only person who can ask me to leave is Alpha Lazar.”
“You b***h, how dare you disrespect our beloved future Luna?” The other maid with Helen hissed. She lunged forward to hit me, but I caught her wrist midair. Her face contorted into shock. She hadn't expected the human to fight back. It felt good to seize control. My palm connected hard with her cheek.
A sharp gasp tore from her lips.
“I may be an ordinary human, but I am not someone you can bully.” I spat as I shoved her aside. All my life I've let people walk over me, but that life ended that day at the auction house. I was done being a weak ass lady that anyone can do whatever they want to.
“How dare you hit her?” Helen roared. She pulled her arm back to strike me, but the library door slammed open and Beta Marcus strode in.
“What in the Packhouse is going on here?” He demanded as he walked further into the room. Her arm still raised in the air, Helen froze, like a deer caught in a hunter's trap, then she snatched it down, clearing her throat. She turned to face him.
“Oh, hi, Beta Marcus.” She greeted with a slight bow of her head. “Just... tidying up. Did you need assistance finding a scroll? We're always at your service.” She plastered a fake smile on her face.
“Good evening, Beta Marcus!” The maids chorused, bowing low.
“Can someone tell me what's going on here?” He ignored their greetings, his gaze still fixed on Helen’s flushed face.
Helen managed a small smile. “Oh, Beta, we were just playing games. Right ladies?”
The maids nodded vigorously. “Yes… Yes Beta. She's right. We were playing games.”
“A game where one of my staff is preparing to hit another resident?” He asked, his voice dangerously calm.
“Of course, Beta. That's how the game works. It is called a game of slaps.”
I nearly snorted. The lie was as heavy as a lead. How did she even come up with it?
“A game of slaps? How come I've never heard of it?” He looked really confused.
Helen gulped hard in apprehension. “It's….it's a new game, Beta. We….I formed it. I wanted to do something different from the usual games. Other games are boring, you know.”
They're boring indeed!
“I see.” He nodded and, instead of walking out like I'd expected, he pulled a leather armchair closer to the fireplace. “Show me how this game is done, ladies. I'd love to see it.”
My blood sang. My lips curled into a true smile. With Beta Marcus watching, she was powerless. She wouldn't dare to hit me, unless she had a death wish. I stared at Helen, but all she could was glare at me. If looks could kill, I swear I'd be six feet under the ground now.
It was my turn now.
“I’m still waiting, Helen. Don’t keep me in suspense.” Beta Marcus’s voice was low but insistent. He must have noticed that she didn't move an inch.
She tore her gaze away from me. “I'm not feeling too well, Beta. We'll continue another time...”
Before she could finish her words, my palms swung. I delivered a ringing slap across her face. Checkmate! “You wanted to hit me earlier, huh? Fine. Let's continue the game.” I shot her a wink. Didn't you say it's called a game of slaps? Let’s go ahead. I want to play the game.”
She was dumbfounded by my actions, but she couldn't do anything. She gasped, but couldn't do anything. She just clutched her reddened cheeks.
“Go ahead, Helen. Hit me back.” I urged her, pushing my luck. She knew the consequences of striking their Alpha's mate in front of the Beta. Therefore she wouldn't dare hit me.
The mischievous gleam in Beta Marcus's eyes told me everything I needed to know: he hadn't bought her lie for a second, and he was enjoying the show.
After watching the scene, he finally rose up from the chair and made his way towards Helen. As if sensing what he was about to do, she shifted on her foot.
“You dare lie to me, Helen.” He started. “If I hadn't shown up on time, you'd have hit your Luna, wouldn't you?”
“I….I swear I wasn't going to hit her, Beta. Please believe me.” She pleaded, but that seemed to piss Beta Marcus.
“I must say you've got some nerves, Helen. You dare to hit your Luna. And worst of all, you still lied to me. Have we suddenly gone soft on you?”
Helen’s knees hit the stone floor with a thud. She clasped her hands together, tears already streaming down her face. “I’m… I’m so sorry, Beta. Please, forgive me for lying. I swear I’ll never do it again. Please…”
“You deserve to be punished, Helen, for your actions,” he said sternly, cutting her off. “Guards!” His voice came out in a low chilling rumble.
Almost immediately, two burly guards strode into the library. They stopped, bowed low before Beta Marcus, and waited for his commands.
“Yes, Beta.” They chorused.
“Take her to the dungeon. She should be wiped twenty times with the electric whip.” He ordered.
My eyes went wide with shock as I heard his words. An electric whip? Oh, God! That's way too hasrh! “Please let her go, Beta.” The plea burst out of me before I could even stop myself. It was too late to take the words back; Beta Marcus had already heard.
He turned to face me, a small, knowing smile on his face. “I am sorry, my Luna, but I can’t do that.” He paused, his expression turning serious. “If Alpha Lazar finds out I let her walk free after she tried to strike his mate, I'll be the one paying the price. I can’t afford his displeasure.”
