Callista's POV
Tristan walked out of the stage with rage; I could feel it. If there is a way of defying the rules and traditions of the pack, he would possibly do it, but unfortunately, there isn't.
“Tomorrow… will… you fight?” Tristan asked haltingly with a worried tone. He wasn't happy with the turn of events. He was expecting Elowen to be the only challenger, but since they all know I'm an Omega, they couldn't let the opportunity slip off.
“Sure, I would. What's an Alpha without his Luna?” I responded with a grin, trying not to reveal that I was afraid of the duel.
“I don't want to lose you,” he said with sincerity in his voice.
“I will be fine,” I assured him, even though I knew I couldn't be fine against three skilled warriors.
Fighting them consecutively, no rest.
Without warning, he pulled me closer and planted a kiss on my soft, pink lips. My heart flushed, making shivers run down my body like it was my first, but it wasn't. He feasted on my lips like his life depended on them. I couldn't resist the urge; I wrapped my hands around his neck. We stood there for a few minutes before someone interrupted us.
Clears throat ”You know I'm here." Andrian jokes playfully.
“You are a f*****g gross man; you should have just left.” Tristan frowned as his hand flew to the back of Andrian's head, slapping him slightly as they both chuckled.
“Sure, I will; I'm out of here,” he responded, raising his hands in the air, signifying he had surrendered, and walking away slowly. “You need to go get a room, man,” he added before disappearing out of sight.
Tristan looked at my face as I gave him a sheepish smile, loving the butterflies that swarmed in my stomach.
“Let's go,” he said, tagging me along with him out of the conference room while I followed suit.
“You need to rest,” he said as soon as we got to his room in the pack house. The walls of his room were adorned with intricate carvings, each depicting the connection to the woods where we abode.
I plopped on the king-sized bed, exhausted. Yeah, I know. It's going to be a long day tomorrow.
He plopped gently on the bed, very close to me, to the extent that I could feel his hot breath on my body. Our gazes pierced into each other as my hazel eyes bore into his piercing blue eyes.
He snaked his arms around my body, bringing me closer to his body so that his bare, broad chest came into view. I couldn’t help but swoon over him.
In a twinkling of an eye, his lips went down to my neck. I think that’s where his mark would be. The sparks between us became stronger; maybe it's the mate bond effect. He nibbled at the spot as I bit my lower lips, feeling how good it was.
“Don’t worry,” he said, paused, and looked into my eyes once again. “I know you would be able to do it.”
I nodded my head acceptably.
He laced his arms around my waist once again as he feasted on my lower lips, claiming dominance.
Awnn! It’s so sweet—the best way to end a stressful day.
The next day,
An orange hue tingling in the morning sky shone on my face. The night was a fast one. I woke up feeling refreshed and energized, maybe because of what happened the previous night. I blushed a little, remembering that I had a wonderful night with Tristan, but sadness soon crept in when I remembered that I had a fight up my sleeve today.
Tristan had already left the bedroom; maybe he had some important things that needed his attention.
I walked out of the bathroom after I had finished taking a hot shower. I stood in front of the wooden-carved mirror hanging in one corner of the room. I smile sheepishly, remembering the suffering I had gone through in my former pack before getting to where I am.
‘I can’t wait to take my revenge on Cassius and the entire Wolfsong Dominion pack. I will burn them to ashes.’ I thought to myself. I packed my long, curly, dark hair into a bun, wore black leggings, and wore a fitted armless top that would make me very comfortable.
All the pack members had gathered on the main ground of the pack house, where the fight would be held. My heart kept racing at an uncontrollable rate, seeing the numbers of the pack members who had come to spectate the duel. I was anxious and scared at the same time.
“You’ve got this, my Luna,” Maya said reassuringly.
I walked up to Tristan, and as soon as I caught a glimpse of him,.
Our eyes locked. “Good morning, Alpha,” I greeted.
He dragged me closer to his body, making me stare directly into his piercing blue eyes as he plastered his lips on mine. This makes butterflies swarm in my stomach.
I moaned softly and pushed him slightly away from my body.
He giggled slightly. “A romantic name would have been better.”
“Okay,” I smiled.
“Are you ready for this?” Tristan whispered in a low tone.
I shake my head positively and say, "Sure, I am,” signifying I am fully prepared for what is to come.
“Don’t forget; always defend; attack only when she isn’t focused." Tristan reminded me of one of the rules I was being taught during my training session.
“I will heed to that,” I nodded gently.
He let go of me and walked up to the podium.
“Great people of the midnight mirage pack!” he shouted as everywhere went silent.
“As you all know, today is the D-day to decide the fate of this pack.”
“Yes Alpha!” They all chorused.
“Without wasting time, the duel will start in a few minutes.” Tristan paused and looked in my direction. I could tell that he was so concerned about my well-being.
“You are allowed to use your wolf during the duel,” Tristan added. “The duel can start now!” Tristan concluded and left the podium.
I took a deep breath and climbed up the stage, putting on the best courage I could muster so as not to reveal my vulnerabilities.
I raised my head to see my first opponent. My chest pounds faster, as if it were to explode, seeing Delta Elowen Dean standing fearlessly in front of me. Her face displayed a smug look.
Why did she come first?
“I bet you will make it out of here alive," Elowen said, mockingly squaring her shoulders as arrogantly as she was.
I smirked. “Let’s see who won’t make it out alive.”
In a blink of an eye, she pounced forward and gave me a hard kick in my stomach, making me groan in pain as I fell helplessly on the ground, holding my stomach. She caught me off guard.
I stood up and took a defensive position as she charged forward to hit me with her already-balled fist. Star spinning around my head as I fall back to the door.
I turned my head to where Tristan was watching. His eyes caught mine. He signaled for me to get up and fight, which I did immediately.
I took a defensive position again, remembering that I was not to attack first. Elowen launched an attack fiercer than the last. I defended her kick and fist head-on without getting hit.
I turned to face Tristan; he smiled at me, which I returned with a smile. Just as I turned to face Elowen, I felt a hard kick on my side, making me fly some distance away from her as my body made a thud sound. Blood sputters from my mouth as my sight becomes blurry, and I fall backward as darkness ensues in my vision.
