KC looked up from a magazine as he stepped out of the elevator. She took one look at his face, her mouth turning into a thin line. She got up and thanked Gail for the coffee, who just nodded, her eyes on Steven. He was dimly aware of Eddie and Gail sharing a concerned look, but they didn’t say anything. Wordlessly, he took her hand and headed out. KC didn’t ask or say anything during the drive home and he was too preoccupied to register the worried looks she kept shooting in his direction. When they arrived home, he headed straight to the bedroom, closing the door with a snap. For once wishing he was alone again.
