Mate…. I repeat the word over in my head. This can not be true. I am just a lowly omega, and he is an alpha. With confusion clear on my face, I just stare back at him, not daring to move. When he takes a step closer to me, I attempt to make myself shrink back farther into the tree. He seems to notice this and halts his movements. c*****g his head to the side, he studies me for a few moments before ordering his men to leave us alone.
Once his men have disappeared to goddess knows where, he slowly makes his way closer to me. When he reaches me, he keels down and reaches out to brush some hair out of my face. He doesn’t succeed at this, seeing as I flinch away from him. I noticed a shift in him as his eyes soften.
“ What has happened to you little wolf?” he coos at me, sitting on the ground.
When I don’t respond, he sighs and looks around the forest before standing up. Even though I am terrified, I cannot resist the urge to look over him. The man before me looks like a Greek god sent down to earth with his messy brown hair, icy blue eyes, tan skin, and a body so chiseled it would make the Greek gods themselves jealous.
I break out of my state of admiration when he lifts me up and carries me off in the direction he came from. My heart rate spikes, as I fear he is going to take me to the dungeon and torture me. He must notice my anxiety and starts rubbing circles on my thigh where his hand and arm are supporting my legs. This slight movement seems to cause some sort of electricity to run through my body and calm me down and I don’t quite understand why.
Neither of us spoke the entire journey to what I assume is the pack house. I don’t know whether to be unnerved by or grateful for the silence. As we step through the massive front door, all eyes shift to me in this alpha’s arms. Some looks are of disgust, others are of curiosity. Before I can even dwell on it, we head past the kitchen and I panic, thinking he is taking me to the dungeon, but I am surprised when he instead heads towards the grand staircase. As we make our ascent, people make way for their alpha, all bowing their heads in submission.
We make our way towards an enormous set of black double doors at the end of the hall. A tall, curvy redheaded woman struts up to the man holding me.
“Baby, why the hell are you carrying a rogue towards your room?” she questions with an accusatory tone.
“Don’t call me that, Serenity. Now get out of my way. My mate needs rest.” He barks out at her.
Taking one look at the girl, I catch the shock and hatred as she registers what he said. A part of me felt anger towards her when she called him baby, but I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the whole being mates thing, which I still don’t believe. Omegas cannot be the mate of an alpha. That is what I was told, and I wasn't told a lot about mates.
The smell of this man is overpowering when we enter the room. This tells me that this is his room, which spikes my anxiety once again. There is only one logical reason in my mind as to why he would bring me here… he wants to have his way with me.I am proven wrong when he sets me down on the enormous plush bed in the center of the room. Turning around, he heads to a door on the opposite side of the room and walks into what looks to be a closet. When he comes back out, he has a piece of clothing in hand, and I scrunch my face up in confusion once again.
“ Little Wolf, let’s get you cleaned up. Do you want to take a bath on your own, or should I help you?
I mull it over for a few seconds before replying. “Um, by myself Sir.” I reply.
“ Of course, my dear, and please don’t call me sir. My name is Alec.”
Nodding, I rise from my spot on the bed and follow him to the bathroom. He shows me where everything is before leaving and closing the door behind him. The first thing I do is try to figure out how to work the bathtub. I have only ever cleaned these. So I take a bit to figure out how to keep the water in the tub. When I figure it out, I set the water to a comfortable temperature, then hurry myself by getting things to wash myself. I come to realize that all these products smell like Alpha Alec and I’m not sure if I want to use them. After debating it for a bit, I just decide to go for it since I don’t think, just water is going to do a good job of getting me clean.
Steeping into the tub, the warm water feels heavenly. That is until it reaches some of my wounds and they burn. I cry out in pain but cover my mouth to stifle the noise.
“Is everything okay in there, little wolf?” Alpha Alec inquires with a concerned tone from the other side of the door.
“Yes Alpha Alec.” I state.
Releasing the breath I was holding when I only hear a sigh in response, I sink the rest of the way into the water and clean myself. I have to grit my teeth and bear the pain as I try to wash my wounds. My silver burnt wrists are the worst to tend to. No doubt if this man sees all my wounds he will throw me away like the lowly no one that I am. Once I finish, I climb out and drain the blood and dirt-stained water. The towel left out for me is soft. It feels wonderful on my skin, but I ruin it with the wounds that are still seeping blood. Not knowing what to do with the once white towel, I lay it in the bathtub and grab the shirt Alpha Alec left for me. Before putting it on, I bring it up to my nose, inhaling the scent. This belongs to my supposed mate. He can’t want me to wear this… can he?
Before overthinking too much, I slide the shirt on and make my way towards the bathroom door. I have to stop and take a couple of deep breaths before I can open it, seeing that I am only wearing a t-shirt. I mean, yes, it is rather large on me, going down to about mid-thigh on my petite frame, but I don’t know this man and my private areas are exposed. With one last breath, I pull the door open to find the Alpha himself sitting on the floor beside the door. When he notices me, he rises to his feet, inspecting me. I notice his eyes linger a little too long on my wrists, so I try to hide them behind my back. That doesn’t work out too well, as he gently grabs my arms and inspects the damage.
“ Little Wolf, were you chained up with silver?” he inquires, knowing what my answer will be.
“ Yes…” I start and trail off.
“How long?” Is the next question he asks as he guides me to the bed to sit.
“Um… since I was a child.” I reply shyly.
“F**k!” He curses as he runs his hands through his hair in frustration.
“I-I am sorry if I upset you. Since I was born with an Omega, I didn't have a choice.” I supply in hopes he won’t be so upset.
“Omega? What are you talking about?” he probes.
“I was born an omega. That’s the lowest rank for werewolves. All omegas get chained up.” I state, not understanding why he is confused.
“Oh, Little Wolf, you are not an Omega by any means. I can tell by your aura that you were born of a higher rank. In fact, you give the aura of a beta or Alpha, but seeing as alphas can’t have daughters, I'd say you were born to a beta family.”
“What….?” Is all I can muster at this bit of information.
Seeing my confusion and clear exhaustion, Alpha Alec ends the conversation and gets me all settled into bed. He wants me to get some proper rest before we try to have anymore conversations. He promises me he will sleep on the couch so that I can be as comfortable as possible.
..........
The forest whips by me in a blur as the sound of roaring howls echo through the trees. Looking to my left, I spot the dark shadow of the beast chasing me. After letting out a harsh cry of fear, I push my frail body to move faster. Unfortunately, this was my mistake as I trip over my own two feet and land face first on the dirt. Rolling over, I am greeted by the horrifying sight of a snarling brown wolf above me. recognition kicks in and I know this is the alpha who has hurt me for so many years. I was sure he was dead when I found him in the field, but i must’ve been wrong. A loud growl rips through his chest, causing me to close my eyes to prepare for what is about to happen....
My eyes shoot open, and I sit straight up. Hyperventilating, I try my best to get my eyes to focus on anything and they do when they land on a very attractive man sitting on the bed in front of me. I try to make out what he is saying, but my brain refuses to focus. After a bit, I can focus on three words.
“breath, Little Wolf”
Not knowing why his voice gave me the strength to do so, I focus on calming my breathing. Within a few minutes, my breathing is normal and I feel as if I can relax slightly.
“Are you okay?” he asks, scrunching his eyebrows up in worry.
“ Yes.” I reply, not wanting to delve deeper into what I just experiences.
Without saying another word, he gets up from the bed and rushes into the bathroom. When he returns, he is holding a glass of water and instructs me to drink. Realizing I am parched, I gladly take the glass and down the whole thing.
“easy little wolf.” he says with a slight chuckle.
“Could I get some more?” I ask, nervous at what his reply will be.
“Of course.” he states with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
After downing my second glass of water, I lay back down, hoping to get a little more sleep before the sun rises. Nightmares have been a constant thing for as long as I can remember, but this was a new one. It makes me wonder, am I one-hundred percent sure that alpha was dead when I took off into the woods? If he’s not, will he come looking for me and if he does, what will he do to me?
i try not to dwell on these thoughts, as they will only hinder my ability to fall back asleep. So instead, I try to focus on the faint sound of Alpha Alec’s breathing as he lay on the couch on the opposite side of the room. His breathing has an almost melodic quality to it that I find extremely soothing. Before I know it, my eyes grow heavy as sleep washes over me once more.
