Amy
I wore a navy green knee-length off-shoulder gown with a pair of black heels to match it and a Hermes black leathered handbag to match it. I stared at myself once more in the mirror. A very visible change just in a few weeks. My first day as an official career lady. I can do this. I said to myself as I came out of my house, and simultaneously, Tim came out of his. One could tell he was heading to his place of work. He just stood staring at me like a spellbound moron.
“It makes me creepy seeing you stare at me like that,” I said, looking at him in disgust as I rolled my eyes.
“Is that how you greet your neighbor?” he said as he kept staring at me.
“A neighbor, you say. Indeed, as far as I’m concerned, I have no neighbor but one who takes advantage of unsuspecting ladies using their weakness in his favor. That who lives next door to me,” I said as I unlocked my car, about to step in.
“ what can I do to get your forgiveness? How many times have I apologized for what I did” Tim said as he tried coming closer.
“ why don’t you go ask Erica? I think she’ll have the best answer to that question,” I said as I entered my car, and started the engine as it roared and revved simultaneously. Then I zoomed off, leaving the moron standing and staring lost.
I wouldn’t want that moron to have anything to do with me. I walked into Hartley’s Empire as I submitted my CV as earlier there was a vacancy placed for the position of a Secretary. I think I’ll fit in. I walked majestically into the empire, clutching my bag as all the staff bowed their head as if showing respect. It definitely couldn’t be me. They show such respect, so I turned only to see a charming young man standing behind me. I bowed a little to show my respect as well.
“A pleasure to meet you, sir,” I said, then I quietly raised my help. Our eyes locked. Who would believe I’d meet the young man who helped me at the supermarket? Speaking of the handkerchief, it's properly folded in my bag.
“You!” He exclaimed, beaming as he hugged me in front of everyone. I had to reciprocate the hug. “You’re well, it’s obvious; I’m so happy,” he said as he tightened the hug. For some strange reason, he acts like we’ve known for a long time.
“Thank you for being there for me even when you barely knew me. I appreciate it,” I said as the staff quietly left us.
“You look gorgeous. I’m glad, what brings you here?” he asked, staring at me. I know it’s hard to believe because when we met I looked like a mess and now an empress.
“It’s all thanks to you,” I said, smiling as we disengaged from the hug. Maybe if I hadn’t met him, I would have been dead because I heard he was the one who rushed me to the hospital and paid my bills.
“I never knew you worked here, and I’m here concerning the interview,” I said as his face brightened more.
“If that’s it you have the job. Follow me to my office. We have a lot of talking to do,” he said as he held my hand gently, and I quietly followed suit. His office is a work of art. He’s into aesthetic designs.
“I must say I love your taste,” I said, admiring the office.
“Everyone who comes in here likes the designs, but no one has ever appreciated my taste. I must say you’re the first, and I appreciate it,” he said as he gestured for me to sit with his eyes, and then he sat down on his comfortable office chair. “Care for tea,” he asked staring at me
“ Thanks, I’ll appreciate the available one,” I said as I heaved a sigh.
“ I must say I love the new you. And I’m sure you’ll make a good secretary seeing how you were able to sacrifice anything to save your friend. I’m sure you’ll input that here,” he said as the door opened and Chocolate tea was brought in. Its savory aroma filled the office.
“I expected green tea, lavender tea, almond tea, but you took me unawares, and instead, you brought my favorite tea. I must appreciate” I said as I took a sip from the mug then I gently dropped the mug on the table.
“I’ve always loved chocolate drink since I was a kid, and I still love it now,” He said as he also took a sip and then gently dropped the mug on the table. “Here, read these documents properly and sign where necessary”
“Thanks,” I said as I picked up the papers and glanced at each of them. Then I slowly nodded my head.
“When you’re done signing where necessary you can resume. Congratulations, Amy,” he said as he stretched his hands for a handshake. Which I reciprocated.
“Thank you, sir. I’ll do my best, sir ” I said, smiemail, then I took the final sip and left the office smilsaid. As I came out of the office, I was greeted with angry stares from people who perhaps might have been there for the interview. A young man came out of an office and announced that the interview would not be held again as the perfect candidate had been selected. Graced with so much favour today is such a blessing for me. My decision is favoring me. I’m really happy.
“Are you the lucky one because you seem to be smiling while others wear a long face? I’m Pearl by the way. What’s your name” a young lady said as she approached me.
“ Miss Pearl I have no idea of what you’re talking about. The fact I’m smiling is just my nature,” I said as I walked out of her and headed straight to my car, leaving her stunned. On my way out of the building, the workers bowed at me while I walked past them. These people don’t know I’ll be just a worker like them. I thought as I chuckled lightly.
