Chapter Six

ELENA’S POV “You b***h!” Mr. Zen’s voice exploded the moment he recovered. The word hung in the air—ugly, sharp. “You just touched my breast,” I said, my voice firm… even though my chest was still rising unevenly. “I did what?” he scoffed loudly. “Stop talking nonsense. I was trying to remove something from your shoulder.” A lie. A disgusting, shameless lie. By now, people had started gathering, drawn by the commotion. Whispers spread. Eyes watched. Judged. Anger burned through me. “You’re still denying it?” I snapped. “That was s****l harassment!” I turned to the crowd, my voice rising. “Everyone—he harassed me!” “Are you crazy?” he barked. “Stop making things up. You were the one trying to seduce me so I could help you get promoted!” For a split second— I froze. The accusation hit harder than I expected. Then something inside me snapped. “Wow…” I said coldly. “You’re unbelievable.” My fingers tightened around my phone. “I’m calling the police.” “What’s going on here?” The voice cut through everything. Calm. Cold. Commanding. I turned. Ace. Standing a few steps away, hands in his pockets, his expression unreadable. And yet— The moment I saw him… Relief hit me. Before I could stop it. “Mr. Damon,” I said quickly, “this man harassed me.” Something in his gaze shifted. Subtle. But unmistakable. Mr. Zen rushed to speak. “Don’t believe her, Mr. Damon. She’s lying. She tried to seduce me and slapped me when I refused!” Murmurs spread through the crowd. Ace’s eyes moved to me. Sharp. Evaluating. “So,” he said slowly, “you expect me to believe that?” The question hung in the air. Heavy. Uncertain. Even Mr. Zen hesitated. “He has always tried to flirt with me at work,” I said firmly, cutting in. “I ignored it out of respect. But today… he crossed the line.” “Why would she lie?” someone whispered. “Because she wants promotion!” Mr. Zen snapped. “She’s using this to get ahead!” My grip tightened. “Why would I need your help,” I shot back, “when my boss has already promised me a bonus?” His expression faltered. There it was. Crack. “Let’s check the CCTV,” I said, my voice steady now. “Then we’ll see who’s lying.” Silence. This time— It was his turn to freeze. Ace watched him. Calm. Unmoved. Then— “Elena,” he said. My breath caught. “I believe you.” For a second… Everything else disappeared. He turned slightly. “Call the police.” The man beside him nodded immediately. “Security,” Ace added. Two guards stepped forward. “Hold him here until the police arrive.” Mr. Zen struggled, shouting, denying— But it didn’t matter anymore. No one was listening. Not anymore. I stood there, my heart still racing, as they dragged him away. “Elena…” I turned. Daniella had arrived. “Ace, I just heard what happened. I’m sorry you had to witness this between my staff,” she said quickly. She didn’t even look at me. Ace’s expression hardened—just slightly. “This isn’t about staff,” he said. “It’s about a man harassing a woman.” His tone was calm. But there was weight behind it. Authority. Finality. “And he will face the consequences.” Daniella forced a small smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. They’re both my employees—” “I’ll take it from here,” Ace cut in. Silence. Sharp. Uncomfortable. Then his gaze shifted to me. “You should go home.” I nodded. “Thank you,” I said softly. He didn’t reply. He simply turned— And walked away. Once he was gone, Daniella finally faced me. She stepped closer, taking my hands. “Elena… do you know Ace personally?” My heart skipped. “No, ma’am,” I said. She studied me carefully. As if trying to read something beneath my answer. Then she nodded. “Alright. I’m sorry about what happened. I believe you. And I promise it will be handled properly.” “I understand. Thank you, ma’am.” But something in her tone… Felt off. “Go home,” she added. “You’ve had a long day.” “Yes, ma’am.” I picked up my bag and left. Later That Night “Baby… I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you.” Alex’s voice softened through the phone. “It’s okay,” I said quietly. “It’s been handled.” “But why did the investor step in like that?” he asked. “Why did he believe you so quickly?” I frowned slightly. “It was obvious I was the one wronged. Anyone would have believed me.” “I know,” he said. “I’m just… concerned.” “Concerned?” “You know how workplaces are. People talk. Rumors spread. They might think he favors you… or wants something from you.” I went silent. His words settled in my mind. Uncomfortably. “Didn’t you say he’s the CEO of Damon Group?” Alex continued. “That kind of attention… it can be misunderstood.” My thoughts drifted. Back to earlier. To Daniella’s question. Do you know Ace personally? “But Mr. Zen was clearly at fault,” I said. “I know,” Alex replied gently. “I just don’t want this to affect you.” I sighed. “I can handle it.” “I know you can. Get some rest.” “Okay. Goodnight.” “Goodnight. I love you.” “I love you too.” The call ended. But sleep didn’t come. My mind wandered. Back to him. The way he stood there. Calm. Certain. Unshaken. “I believe you.” The words echoed again. And again. And for some reason— They meant more… Than they should have.
