Lola is the only daughter of a wealthy family. Her parents had a difficult time having a baby. Catherine White, Lola's mother had a lot of complications which resulted to a couple of miscarriages. Lola is a miracle baby. For the third time, Catherine got pregnant and had a successful delivery to a normal baby girl despite a complicated pregnancy that could kill both mother and child. For 20 years, Lola's parents were hands-on on taking good care of her. Others may turn out to be spoiled brats but Lola was otherwise. She is kind and courageous. The only thing that made her a brat is bullying Sebastian and secretly loving him at the same time.
Both of their parents had close ties with each other. On every special occasion of the family, their family gets invited and nobody missed it. Unfortunately, Elise Hugo, Sebastian's mother had a serious illness. She had a brain tumor and was given less than a year without any survival rate. Ethan Hugo, Elise's husband and Sebastian's father were addicted to gambling which cause them to lose everything. Elise already knew about her husband's addiction to gambling and had done something for her children without them knowing about it. Only Catherine, Lola's mother knew that Elise could have done something about her husband's gambling addiction. But even after Elise's death, Catherine was not informed about anything Elise had done for her children. She only knew Elise made up a plan.
After the death of the late Madame Hugo, the rest of their family was messed up. Ethan failed his children. And there's nothing else he could do to undo everything he did. He was so in love with his wife. Up to the point where he would bet everything just to save her. But money can not heal Elise's illness anymore. Out of shame, Ethan left. He chose to disappear instead of being another problem to his children which made Sebastian left with the responsibility of taking good care of his younger brother, Cristian.
On the other hand, Sebastian had no idea about his father's intention for doing what he did. That was why he was so angry with him. Because of all the debts his father made, Sebastian was left without a choice but to go somewhere else where no one could find and reach them. Their oldest butler suggested bringing them to the City of Brent, their butler's hometown. It was so urgent, Sebastian couldn't meet the White family to properly bid their farewells. Not long after, the butler died. Everyone in the City thought the two brothers were the butler's nephews.
Sebastian had to find a lot of part-time jobs to make a living and to let Cristian continue going to school even if he had to stop in return. They furthermore had to hide their family name to avoid any possible traces and stayed low for five years.
Sebastian did not know that Catherine and Arthur paid their family's debts. Lola also did not know what her parents did to the Hugo family since she only found out Sebastian's situation until recently when she found out the letter. For five years, Lola tried to forget him and almost did it, believing that they made sure to leave without traces. But Sebastian's hand-written note at the back of his letter for Lola means otherwise, leaving a postal address to stay in contact through sending letters.
Sebastian was clever. Tried to use the old way of communication despite how advanced the world they were living in.
Since his wife's death, Ethan Hugo, Elise's husband, and Sebastian's father had a life full of despair. He suffered a lot and thought that everything he's been through was what he deserved. He could not face his Children and promise not to come back until he could pay his debt and come back to the life they had before. But ever since Elise's death, he knew everything will never be the same.
Catherine and Arthur found Ethan a year after he disappeared and was dumbfounded by the news about his children. He blamed himself for Sebastian's decision. He looked for them but like how Catherine and Arthur failed, Ethan could not find his children's traces as well. Then, he started feeling aimless, as if his life lost a compass. At the time he reached sixty, he asked Lola's parents a favor to send him to the home for the aged and gave up. Both Catherine and Arthur agreed and helped him with it. Despite knowing that the White family already paid off his debt, he chose to be sent in the organization for homeless people. But from time to time, Arthur visits his friend alone without his family knowing.
Lola's decision made her parents hope to bring the two boys back. Even though they paid a number of secret agents to find them before but got nothing in particular about their whereabouts. They were hopeful and trusted their daughter's decision at the same time.
