She was there with a maid and I swore even the maid looked better than her. She was in a blue pyjamas with black dots. Her hair hung loosely over her shoulders and her face was messed up. Her eyes were partly opened.
"Morgan! We have a guest I'm the house. Go get dressed," Mr. Edgecombe said feeling embarrassed.
"Gue... Guest!"She exclaimed after him.
"Yes. Todd Thomas, the one who saved you,"her mother added.
Her eyes widened now and fell on me. In a frantic and blushing from embarrassment, she ran up the stairs and disappeared from my sight.
When she was back, She had tied up her hair in a ponytail and she was putting on a gray suit which made me wonder why.
"So an handsome guy saved you from some bad guys yet you felt it was useless to say it?"Mrs. Grace started and turned to me. " Did she even say thank you...?"
"She...," I began to say.
"Yeah I did," she chipped in and turned to me. "Right?"
"Right," I nodded. "She did say thank you."
I forced a smile.
We shall talk about this again, Ms. Heiress, I thought.
Mrs. Grace turned to her daughter. " But why didn't you take your pepper spray? It was always with you."
Pepper spray? Wow, even the heiress of Putin Global do that? So childish, I thought laughing inside of me.
"Stop embarrassing me, Mom," Morgan said.
"Wow you never said that if it was only Sandra present," Her mother observed and leaned forward at her. "Are you trying to impress someone?"
"Mom!" Morgan exploded. " Firstly, I'm thankful I leave this house soon and secondly, there's a stranger here."
Her mother laughed. "I'm sorry, okay."
"He'll no longer be a stranger soon so consider that," Her father said.
Morgan dropped her spoon. "What? What are you planning on doing with him that?" She asked.
"You never know, girl," he replied. " Anyway there are vacant posts in the company."
"Post not posts, Dad. And that is the job my PA," she corrected.
"He'll fit in right?" Mr. Edgecombe said and winked at me.
"I think so," I replied as I could not think of another answer.
We ate in silence and after the meal, Mr. Edgecombe told me meet him in the garden.
I was shown there by a manservant.
It was a beautiful garden with a lot of shrubs and flowers of which I know only few of them. There was even some nice smelling pines and the air in the garden had a good scent.
There were servants trimming each flowers in a courteous manner and at last I named this place Edgecombe Palace.
He was standing almost at the center of the garden; not monitoring the servants but looking up at the sky.
As soon as I walked to him in my most graceful manner, I cleared my throat.
"A respectful sign of showing your presence," he commended turning to me with a smile.
"Well thank you sir," I replied, happy about how the conversation started.
"But do you know those guys?" he asked turning to look forward.
"Who?" I asked not sure what he meant.
"The guys that tried to harm Morgan," he continued.
"Why, no, sir," I replied wondering why he asked.
You must be really daring, he muttered.
"So what do you want as a reward?" he asked me. "What are your future plans?"
"Well I'm planning to go to college after working for this year," I replied. "But any reward is fine with me."
Or did he expect me to say ' No sir I did it out of goodwill' then he was wrong big time. Even though I wasn't expecting the rewards, I will accept it when it was offered.
"How about you sign a two-year contract and go to college after?" he suggested.
"Um sir..."
"Come you need a lot of money to enter college and especially as a full time. You can't enjoy part time college," he added.
"Well ok sir," I answered him knowing I shouldn't argue with him.
Then I collected some documents to fill and got ready to leave.
When I didn't see mom in the sitting, I walked to her room and opened the door. She was reading her diary and quickly closed it when she saw me.
"Come on out, Mom," I said. "I got news."
"Okay," she said and I went back to the sitting room.
She came in few minutes after which I had removed my coat and balanced on the couch.
"So what's trending with you?" she asked sitting opposite me with a smile on her face.
"I got a new job," I announced.
"Really?" her face lit up.
"Not just any job as a PA," I replied proudly.
"Oh my God," she squealed covering her mouth for only a while. "Which company?"
I turned away from her and looked at the ceiling stretching out the documents to her.
"Nothing less than the great Putin Global," I said and missed the unsure look on her face.
She collected the documents after a while and when I looked at her, she was smiling again.
"Oh that's... that's good," her voice cracked but she managed to get it back together.
"All I need is to fill the form and submit and I got a job," I replied suspecting nothing.
" How did you come across it?" she asked me.
"I happened to save his daughter and he decided to reward me,"I explained.
"Oh. You may sign it," she said with an unsure tone.
