Annie's POV: Elena came to my cabin that evening, not long after the men had gone. She came alone, in a pale dress, with a basket over her arm. She smiled at me from the path the way she smiled at everyone. A kind neighbor, paying a call. Jack had gone to play by the well with the other pups. There was no one to see her smile change. "Annie," she said warmly. "I heard the news. The Alpha and the Beta ride out at dawn, and I thought I should check on you. A woman in your condition, alone in her cabin." "I'm not alone," I said before I could stop myself. "Jack is here." "Jack." Her smile didn't move. "Of course. Such a good boy. I've always thought so." She came in without being asked. She set the basket on my table and looked around the cabin the way you look at a room you'll soon own
