Annie's POV:
Chloe arrived with the light going out of the sky, a bundle under her arm and a look of complete disbelief on her face.
"Is that the Alpha?" She stopped at the gate. "In the yard? In the dirt?"
Alexander had Jack on his shoulders, walking in a slow circle while Jack announced the borders of his kingdom. The Alpha of Ironclaw nodded gravely at each decree. The healer's face cycled through several expressions. She had seen the Alpha give orders, lead hunts, and stare down the Northern envoy. She had never seen him be a horse.
"Chloe," I said. "He brought Jack a knife for his birthday."
"He brought him a birthday gift." Chloe's mouth opened, closed. "The Alpha. Bought a gift. For a pup. And stayed to play."
