Chapter 5 The Wolf Knows

553 Words
Alexander's POV: When I woke up, a headache accompanied by ringing in my ears hit me all at once. My mouth had a strong, metallic taste, and everything before my eyes wavered; it took me quite a while to focus. The space beside me was empty. Elena had already gotten up. Fragmented memories of last night flooded my mind, fabric being torn in the darkness, a burning body heat, a woman calling my name over and over… Until, finally, my rational mind completely collapsed. Judging by the marks on my body, I was certain that once I lost control, I became utterly brutal. It was definitely the most savage I'd been in ten years. I must have hurt Elena, yet I couldn't recall the details. Thinking about it made me feel even more guilty. I washed my face in cold water and went to find her. Elena sat on the low sofa, her dark circles under her eyes particularly noticeable, and she exuded an unspoken sense of exhaustion. However, the moment she saw me, her eyes and the space between her brows lit up, and she flashed her usual gentle smile. Seeing that smile only made me feel even more guilty, it was all because of my unrestrained lovemaking last night that she hadn't been able to sleep a wink all night. "Elena." I sat down beside her, pulled her into my arms, and spoke with a slight catch in my voice. "Last night… my wolf got out of control. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I know I was rough with you. If anything hurts, tell me, let me make it up to you." "It's okay," she said softly, resting her head on my shoulder. "You're my mate. I'll never blame you." She was always so gentle, effortlessly soothing the restlessness in my heart. For the past ten years, I'd known that I'd married the best woman in the pack. Even though I hurt her like a beast last night, she still chose to forgive me. "I'm so lucky to have a mate like you." I kissed her forehead and made a solemn promise. "I'll do better. I'll make it up to you by loving you for the rest of my life. I need to handle territory business," I said. "Rest. I'll come back at noon for lunch." "All right." I stood up and walked toward the door. Servants were bustling back and forth in the hallway. As an Alpha, I never paid any attention to these faceless figures. Until my gaze fell on the maid in the corner, kneeling on the floor and mopping it. Just a glance. Boom—! After last night, the once-lifeless Leon was, in that instant, like a powder keg exploding. He immediately lost control. I felt its joy, its hunger, its possessiveness! He pounded into me frantically, roaring, "Mate! She's our mate! The Moon Goddess has sent her right to us!" I clenched my jaw and summoned every ounce of self-control I had to keep from losing my composure. I wanted to ignore her as much as possible, but my feet stopped right in front of her. "New here?" I asked, forcing myself to sound calm. The maid replied with her head bowed, "Yes. Luna Elena assigned me to work in the main house."
