Annie's POV: So I said nothing. As he carried me, only I could perceive the cool cedar-and-rain note of his mate-scent. It wrapped around me without leaving any ordinary scent on my hair or clothes, a private signal between our wolves. My body wanted to relax into him. My mind chose restraint: I would accept his help, but I would not treat it as a promise he had never made. When we finally emerged from the main house into the cool morning air, I saw the familiar outline of my cabin in the distance. Alexander's pace didn't slow as we approached, and before I could protest, he was climbing the steps to my porch, nudging the door open with his shoulder, and stepping inside.
