Chapter Eighteen Sitting at her desk, Kayla finished off the apple as she started studying. She had no idea how long she’d been at her desk when she was startled by a shadow moving closer to her. She bit back a scream, her heart continuing to pound even when Brett stepped forward into the pool of light cast from her desk lamp. He held out a glass of juice, which Kayla took, glad to have something to do other than talk. Taking a sip, she tried to calm her racing pulse. The last few days she’d kept thinking she could see shadows moving closer, but as soon as she turned to look, they were gone. She really needed more sleep.
