chapter 39
Darya POV
No. No, this is not possible.
She will not be queen. Not if I can stop it..A wolf. A filthy wolf sitting on a dragon throne? It’s an insult. To the bloodline. To the crown. To me…How could he do this to me?
I went straight to Queen Eleana’s chambers, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might crack my ribs. The guards let me pass, but their eyes lingered…judging, whispering without words.
When I entered, Eleana looked up from her desk. The irritation in her eyes was immediate.
“What is it this time, Draya? How can I help you today?”
Her tone was calm.. too calm.
“Queen Eleana,” I said, forcing the tremble from my voice. “You can’t let this happen. She’s a wolf. This will never work. I can’t allow it. Dean is mine.”
A heavy sigh escaped her lips.
She rose slowly from her chair, regal and composed, her presence swallowing the room whole.
“Darya… Draya… Draya,” she said, shaking her head. “When will you learn? You do not tell the queen what to do.”
Her words sliced cleanly.
“Yes, you have slept with my son. Yes, you have shared his bed.” Her eyes hardened. “But the only reason you want him now is because she has him. You don’t love Dean. You love the idea of being queen.”
My stomach twisted.
“I have seen women like you before,” she continued, her voice turning icy. “And I have destroyed them.”
For a moment, fear crept up my spine…Then her expression shifted …calculating…“But I do have a mission for you.”
I blinked.
“I want you to go to the werewolf realm and bring Con back to us.”
Con?
“I want you to leave in three days. You do not need to attend the ceremony. But I want him here… so Dean can do what needs to be done.”.My breath caught…What did she mean by that?
Was she giving me a chance… or sending me away?
Three days…The werewolf realm.
And Con…Fine.
If I must go to their realm, then I will. And maybe ..just maybe..q I can make sure that wolf never makes it to that throne at all.
If the queen thinks she’s sending me away quietly…
She unrestimates me
Draya POV
“Queen Elena, I’ll go.”
The words left my mouth smoothly, but inside, my pulse thundered. Not from fear…From hunger.
“I want Con destroyed. He scared Dean. Look at his face .. that mark will never fade. He deserves to suffer for that.”
I stepped closer to the throne, lowering my voice.
“And I want to be the one who brings him to his knees.”
The queen’s sharp eyes studied me carefully. She was always calculating. Always weighing loyalty against usefulness.
“If I make him fall in love with me,” I continued, “if I make him believe I am completely devoted… that I would betray anyone for him… he will follow me anywhere. Even through a portal into our realm.”
A slow, dangerous smile curved across her lips.
She rose from her chair, her presence swallowing the room. When she stopped in front of me, I felt the power radiating from her… ancient, lethal.
“You will do exactly what you just promised,” she said quietly.
Her fingers lifted my chin, forcing me to meet her eyes.
“But if you betray us, Draya… I will not exile you. I will not imprison you.” Her voice dropped to a whisper. “I will end you.”
A chill slid down my spine…Not because I doubted her.
Because I knew she meant it.
“My queen,” I said, bowing slightly, hiding the flicker of ambition in my eyes. “You have my oath. I will return with him at my side. He will be so blinded by me, he won’t even realize he walked into a trap.”
I straightened.
“Just have Dean ready when he steps through the portal. Have the warriors waiting. Once he’s here, there will be no escape.”
Elena studied me one last time…then nodded.
Draya POV
“Go,” she commanded…And I did.
I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t bow. I didn’t look back.
The heavy doors of the chamber shut behind me with a final echo that rang through the stone corridors like a promise. Or maybe a warning.
I will not come back… not until he fully trusts me. Not until he is madly in love with me…It won’t take long at all.
Con is powerful, yes. Ruthless. Angry. Broken in ways he pretends he isn’t. But men like him? They crave one thing more than power.
Devotion…I can give him that.
I can make him believe I worship the ground he walks on. I can soften my voice, lower my eyes, let him think he’s the one unraveling me. I will laugh at the right moments. Touch him by accident. Stand just a little too close. Let my scent wrap around him like a promise he never knew he wanted…And when he starts looking for me in a room…When he starts trusting me with secrets…
When he starts believing I would choose him over my own realm…
That’s when he falls…And once he falls?..He won’t even see the blade coming…Dean will realize then. He will see what he lost. He will see that I was the stronger choice. The smarter choice. The one who would do whatever it takes to protect the throne.
He chose her…A wolf.
A weak-hearted, soft-spoken distraction…Let him watch as I tear down his enemy from the inside…Let him watch as I return with Con kneeling at my feet..And when I do come back, it won’t be as someone begging for a place at Dean’s side…It will be as the woman who won a war without lifting a sword…Con won’t know what hit him…But I do…And I’m ready.
