chapter 26 Axel POV I smirked when that knock came at the door. Of course, they had been listening. If I were them, I would have done the same damn thing. Their only daughter sitting in a room with the Dragon King? Yeah. I’d have my ear glued to the door, too. Ivory pulled away from me, but her hand stayed in mine. She squeezed it once before walking to the door. “Come in,” she called out. The door opened slowly, and her parents stepped inside like they hadn’t just been spying. I stood straight, not in a threatening way, but in respect. I wasn’t just a king right now.. I was a male asking for their daughter…Her mother looked between us first, then down at our hands. Her father’s jaw was tight, protective as hell. I respected that. “Are we interrupting?” her father asked. “Not at all,” I answered before Ivory could. “I was just about to tell your daughter that I would like to take her to my castle for a few days. She’ll be back before work. I give you my word.” Her mother raised a brow. “Your word as…?” “As her mate,” I said without hesitation. “And as king.” Silence filled the room…Ivory’s fingers tightened around mine again, but she didn’t look scared. She looked determined. “I’m going,” she said firmly. “Not because he’s a king. Not because he promised me the world. I’m going because I want to see it for myself.”..Gods, I loved her fire. Her father stepped closer to me. He was brave…I’ll give him that. Most men wouldn’t step toward a dragon without fear. “If she calls, you bring her back. Immediately.” “If she calls,” I replied evenly, “I’ll already be bringing her back.” His eyes searched mine for lies. He wouldn’t find any. I don’t lie. It’s pointless. Her mother finally smiled softly. “Then let her go. She’s not a child.” Ivory turned to me with that spark in her eyes. “So… Dragon King, how exactly are we getting to this castle?” I leaned down close to her ear. “Hold on tight.” Her parents stepped back as I walked her outside. The night air wrapped around us, cool and alive. I could feel my dragon pushing forward, excited, restless. “You ready?” I asked her. “For the record,” she said, stepping closer, “if you drop me, I will haunt you.” I laughed. “I would never drop my queen.” The word slipped out before I could stop it…She froze for half a second… then smiled. I shifted, my massive dragon form unfolding into the night. Wings stretching wide, scales glinting under the moonlight. I lowered myself so she could climb on…She didn’t hesitate…Not one second…Her hands gripped my scales firmly. “Okay,” she called out. “Let’s go.” And just like that, I leaped into the sky. The wind roared past us as we rose higher and higher, her laughter echoing in my mind through our bond. I’ve flown for centuries. I’ve crossed oceans, mountains, kingdoms.. But this? This was the first time it meant something..I wasn’t flying alone anymore.
