I need those papers 14

Chapter 14 Con POV It had been over a week since Penny disappeared. A whole damn week…I’d sent trackers in every direction. Forests. Border towns. Old safe houses. Anywhere she could have run. I needed those papers… the deed, the contracts, everything tied to the building. I knew her. She would’ve made copies. She was too careful not to…And when I found them? I’d burn every last one….I walked into what used to be our room. It didn’t feel like ours anymore. It felt empty. Cold. Like she had already erased herself from it. I grabbed everything she left behind ... photos, jewelry, clothes…. and tossed it into the hallway. I even tore apart the walls where she used to hide things. Checked every loose board. Every vent. Every damn hiding spot…Nothing….Not a single paper…I was officially screwed…My phone rang….Ambrose…I answered immediately. “What did you find?” “You need to come to the north border. Two hours into the woods. There’s a cottage out here. Her scent is everywhere… and there’s another scent.”..My jaw tightened. “What scent?” “A vampire.”...My heart slammed into my ribs. “I’ll be there in an hour.” I didn’t even wait. I shifted mid-run, paws pounding through dirt and brush. It couldn’t be. The prince should’ve died from that poison. Unless….Unless she saved him….Kolf’s voice echoed in my head. “You better hope she wasn’t there when he woke up. If he survived, he could’ve killed her.” “I don’t care about that,” I growled internally. “What I care about is that he’s dead. If the king’s son is dead, it weakens the vampires. They’ll think Jasmine did it. They’ll go after her. I made sure her scent was all over him.”.. Kolf scoffed. “That was old clothing. Her scent could’ve faded.” “Vampires can smell anything,” I snapped. “Even years later.” An hour later, we reached the cabin…I shifted back, tying the shorts around my waist before stepping inside. The moment Kolf inhaled, he exploded with a growl so loud the walls seemed to vibrate. “She’s been here with him. They were together. Look at the glass. On the small wooden table sat a glass…. stained dark red. Her blood. “That stupid b***h,” I muttered. “She tried to save him.”...I turned to Ambrose. “Where is she? Did you see her?” “No, sir. But her scent is everywhere. So is the vampire’s. Her blood’s in that glass.”...I stared at it….So she gave herself to him. Fine….Let’s play. “Ambrose,” I said calmly, pacing the cabin. “I need rogue vampires. Tell them they won’t be killed. They’ll be paid…. heavily….for the job.” “Yes, sir. I know a few. I’ll call.” “If they refuse,” I said without hesitation, “kill them. I don’t care if they’re your friends.”...His hesitation was brief. “Yes, sir.”...I walked into the bedroom…Suitcases…Several of them…I unzipped each one…Clothes….Only clothes. “What the hell did she do with the papers?” I snarled. “The deed. The contracts. Everything is gone.”..Kolf’s laughter was bitter. “ She has you by the balls, Con. You screwed her over. Now look where you are.” “Shut up,” I growled through gritted teeth. “We’ll find them.” “And if we don’t? We lose the building. We’re nothing without her signature.”..I exhaled slowly…If I couldn’t find the papers… I’d forge them…I just needed to perfect her handwriting. Tracker Ambrose POV This man has lost his mind. Rogue vampires? He wants me to find rogues to hunt the prince of the vampires. That’s suicide….Rogues are worse than regular vampires. They don’t follow laws. They don’t answer to kings. They thirst… endlessly…But I made the calls anyway. One answered. “If the prince is still alive,” the rogue said, voice low and smooth, “I might know someone who can confirm it. If the wolf is with him, she’ll let me know.” “How long?” I asked. “Two weeks. She comes out of the realm then. I’ll meet her.” Two weeks…That’s a lifetime with Con breathing down your neck. “Fine,” I said. “He’ll pay you well. Don’t call unless you have something.”...The line went dead…I turned to Con. “I have one who might know in two weeks if she’s with him.” “Good,” he said instantly. “But push him. I want answers before then.” “Of course you do.” He thinks information just appears when he snaps his fingers. It doesn’t work that way. I’ve known Con for thirteen years. Thirteen years ago, he lost his wolf once before…If he keeps going like this?..He’s going to lose everything else…And I won’t be around when he does.
