CHAPTER 7:QUESTIONS

956 Words
Why does it feel like my heart already belongs to him? Why does his voice calm me down… even when everything is falling apart? And why am I more afraid of losing him… than of the danger around me? We didn’t move for a while. The air was still tense. Heavy. Like the world around us was waiting for something to happen. Daniel’s hand was still holding mine. Firm. Protective. But this time… It felt different. Not just safety. Something deeper. Something I couldn’t explain. “You’re shaking,” he said softly. I didn’t even realize it. But he was right. My fingers trembled slightly in his grip. “I’m trying to understand,” I admitted. My voice came out quiet. Honest. Because that was the truth. Nothing made sense anymore. Not him. Not me. Not what was happening. And yet… I was still here. Still standing in front of him. Still holding his hand. “You’re not supposed to be in this world,” he said. My brows frowned slightly. “What world?” His eyes darkened a little. “My world.” The way he said it… It felt real. Too real. “And what is your world?” I asked. He hesitated. Like always. Like there was so much he wanted to say… But couldn’t. “Dangerous,” he finally said. I let out a small breath. “I already figured that out.” A faint, almost invisible smile touched his lips. And for a second… Everything felt normal again. But it didn’t last. “Daniel,” I said, my voice softer now, “tell me the truth.” His expression changed immediately. Serious. Careful. “If I do, you won’t be able to go back,” he said. My heart tightened. “Go back to what?” He didn’t answer. Because deep down… I already knew. There was no going back. Not after this. Not after him. “I don’t want to go back,” I said quietly. The words surprised even me. But they were real. His eyes searched mine. Like he was trying to see if I meant it. I didn’t look away. Because I did. A long silence passed between us. Then slowly… He lifted his hand. Hesitating for just a second— Before gently brushing a strand of hair away from my face. My breath caught. The touch was soft. Careful. Like he was afraid to break something. Or maybe… Afraid to break me. “You don’t understand what you’re choosing,” he said quietly. My heart started racing again. “Then make me understand,” I whispered. His hand lingered for a moment. Just a moment. Before dropping slowly. “You’re choosing a life where you’ll always be in danger,” he said. His voice was low. Heavy. “You’ll be hunted.” My chest tightened. “You’ll be watched.” A pause. “You’ll never be normal again.” Silence. Deep. Real. But somehow… None of that scared me the way it should have. Because one thought stayed in my mind. “You’ll be there, right?” I asked. The question came out before I could stop it. His eyes widened slightly. Like he wasn’t expecting that. “If I’m in danger…” I continued softly, “…you’ll protect me.” It wasn’t a question anymore. It felt like something I already believed. Something I already knew. His expression changed. Something broke through his usual control. Something real. “I always have,” he said. My heart stopped. Always? “What does that mean?” I asked quickly. But before he could answer— That sharp sound came again. Closer. Faster. Daniel’s head snapped to the side instantly. His body tensed. “They’re tracking us,” he said. Fear rushed through me again. “But how?” I asked. His jaw tightened slightly. “Because you’re waking up.” My heart skipped. “What does that mean?” But he didn’t answer. Instead, he stepped closer again. Too close. Close enough that I could feel his breath. Close enough that everything else faded. “Listen to me,” he said, his voice low and urgent. “If anything happens—” “It won’t,” I cut in. He frowned slightly. “You don’t know that.” “Then don’t let it happen,” I said. My voice was stronger now. Certain. His eyes locked onto mine. Deep. Intense. For a moment… Everything went quiet. Too quiet. Like the world had paused just for us. My heart pounded loudly in my chest. His gaze dropped briefly to my lips. Then back to my eyes. And something shifted. Something dangerous. Something soft. Something real. “Daniel…” I whispered. I didn’t even know what I was about to say. Or do. But I felt it. That pull. That connection. Like something was about to happen. Like something had always been meant to happen. He leaned closer. Slowly. Carefully. Like he was giving me time to pull away. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. Because I didn’t want to. My heart raced faster. My breath caught. Everything around us disappeared. It was just him. Just me. Just this moment. And then— A loud growl tore through the silence. Daniel pulled back instantly. His expression snapping back to alert. Dangerous. “They’re here,” he said. My heart dropped. Again. So fast. So sudden. The moment was gone. Replaced by fear. By danger. By reality. He grabbed my hand again. Firm. Protective. “Stay with me,” he said. And this time… There was no hesitation in me at all. Because no matter what was coming… No matter how dangerous this was… I wasn’t going anywhere. Not without him.
