The Contract I Never Expected

915 Words
Gloria’s POV My breath caught in my throat as William collapsed onto one knee, a quiet gasp escaping his lips as dark, silver-tinted liquid splattered against the edge of the rich mahogany desk. I rushed forward, my hands reacting before my mind could fully process the terror unfolding right in front of me. "William!" I cried out, reaching down to grab his broad shoulder to steady his heavy frame. "What is happening to you? Are you hurt?" He raised a single gloved hand, pressing a white cloth firmly against his mouth as he forced himself back up onto his feet. His face looked visibly pale, his golden eyes filled with an intense, disciplined control as he pulled his dark collar higher to conceal his neck. "It is nothing for you to worry about, Gloria," he said softly, his voice gravelly as he wiped his lips and turned away toward the wall safe. "Just an old wound from the border wars acting up." He locked the signed parchment inside the metal safe, turning the combination dial until a heavy click echoed through the room. Sitting down behind his vast oak desk, he gestured toward the velvet armchair across from him. "Please, sit down," he said, his golden eyes holding an intense, respectful focus that made my breath catch in my throat as I met his gaze. "We have much to discuss before dawn." I slowly sank into the plush chair, sitting in the quiet luxury of his private executive suite as I stared at the imposing, silver-haired stranger who saved me in the alleyway. The room smelled faintly of dark cedar, old paper, and rich leather. "You speak as if this contract is just another routine business transaction," I said, leaning forward slightly as I rested my wrists on the polished wood. "Carrying an heir for an Alpha is not a minor agreement, William." "I am aware of the heavy weight of this request, Gloria," he replied, leaning back in his chair while keeping his hands folded together. "I do not treat this lightly, nor do I treat you as a mere vessel for my bloodline." "Then tell me the exact terms in plain language," I requested, keeping my chin lifted high. "I need to hear every single detail directly from your mouth." Without any arrogance, he laid out an unbelievable offer, his tone calm and completely transparent as he detailed every clause. He promised a strictly confidential surrogacy arrangement that would grant him a legitimate heir while giving me complete financial independence, absolute safety, and the power to rebuild my family line from the ashes. "You will have your own private quarters within my estate," William explained, his steady voice cutting through the quiet room. "You will be provided with personal security, the finest medical care, and a substantial allowance that will belong entirely to you, regardless of the outcome." "And my family's disgraced name?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly as memories of Julian's betrayal flashed across my mind. "What happens to House Sorensen?" "I will personally clear your family's records in the High Council," he answered without hesitation. "Every single false charge pressed against your late father will be officially dropped, and your ancestral military emblem will be reclaimed." A wave of mixed emotions hit me right in the chest, making my hands shake in my lap. I felt a lingering fear of jumping back into dangerous pack politics, balanced by a deep, unexpected trust in this mature Alpha who treated me with honor instead of pity. "Julian will not let this rest if he finds out," I warned, looking into his golden eyes. "He believes he destroyed my family completely. If he sees me under your protection, he will use every political asset in the capital to ruin us both." William let out a low, confident breath, a small, dark smirk playing at the corners of his lips. "Lord Julian holds power only because the Council allows him to play with soldiers. He does not hold power over me, Gloria." "You speak as though you are above the Council itself," I murmured, watching his expression carefully. "In many ways, I am," he stated plainly, leaning forward to place a heavy glass inkwell in the center of the desk. "Now, to make this agreement binding under ancient law, we must seal it with wolf-bane ink." He pulled a golden quill from a wooden case, dipping its sharp nib into the glowing, violet-tinted liquid inside the glass jar. Driven by my strong desire to survive and reclaim my dignity, I picked up the quill and signed my name in glowing wolf-bane ink, binding us to a sacred magical oath. The moment the last letter of my signature was formed on the heavy paper, a soft, golden light flared up from the page. A gentle, humming heat spread through the palm of my hand, tracing up my arm like warm water before settling deep into my chest. "It is done," I whispered, staring down at my hand as the faint golden glow slowly faded into my skin. As the magic settled into my skin, William stepped closer, his warm aura surrounding me as he spoke the final instruction. The heavy pressure of his Alpha power felt surprisingly comforting, wrapping around me like a thick shield against the cold world outside. "Pack your things, Gloria," he said softly, his deep voice filling the quiet suite. "Tomorrow, you move into my private wing at the royal estate
