I watch as Courtney drops the knife before she turns and walks away from the scene. I follow after her as she walks outside and walks around the side of the clubhouse. She stops and drops to her knees. I’m right beside her as I pull her into my arms and she sobs. Breaking down.
“It’s over, it’s really over.” She sobs and I tighten my hold on her and I rock us back and forth.
“Yeah baby, it’s over. He can’t hurt you or Amelia again. It is done.” I tell her and we both stay silent as we sit on the grass under the night sky. After a while, she pulls away slightly and turns to look at me.
