41 - The Sacrifice - 2016

Sobrina landed in Assune Airport around 4am in the morning, she had returned from Lagunde. She intended to visit her doctor at Onimobe, concerning her hurting boob, before proceeding to the University of Science. She slept in the terminal with a group of other travelers, and left for the hospital later that morning.

"There are two lumps in your right boob", the doctor informed her, while examining her boobs. "Not one, but two?", Sobrina questioned in shock. "That is how they come", the doctor continued.

"You will return after your next menstruation, for proper examination and subsequent surgery", he concluded, while making notes and prescribing medications.

Sobrina had heard it was a very expensive process, one she wouldn't be able to afford, not with the burden of second degree. She was broken, she already had HIV and fibroid.

"What would be left?" she wept over the phone as she confided with Pastor Melvin.

"Do I have to suffer from everything?" she wept.

"Soby, wipe your tears, we will get through this together, you will be alright, you'll see", he consoled her.

She contacted her mother and told her about the new development, and the next day, her mother stopped taking her calls. Her mother shouldn't have been Sobrina's first point of contact, not after all she had done to her. But Sobrina couldn't completely afford to do without her family, and her mother was her only link until then.

Her sister called her a few days later telling her that their father had said that she had an Egyptian sickness - referring to the Biblical pledge of Egypt, which exempted the Israelites. They didn't care as usual, Sobrina was on her own. Pastor Melvin was her only confidante and emotional support, he prayed and fasted for a miracle. He was now serving in the compulsory National Youth Service Corps, in a different state. He had contacted Sobrina to inquire as to how much it had cost her to apply for a second degree in the University of Science a few months ago, and had abandoned his dreams of studying abroad and applied for Masters in the University with her.

Sobrina had acquired an apartment and all the necessary requirements for her studies, including a laptop and a fat bank account for acceptance and tuition fees, including pocket expenses. She performed a ritual, summoning Asmodeus - her Demon - and requesting for healing and success. She offered promises to build large covens around the University before she graduated. He accepted her sacrifice but insisted her success would be limited unless she sacrificed her lover - Pastor Melvin. She was to severe her relationship with him. He promised her excessive riches if she did. It became a battle on her mind.
