“Unemployed? As in fired?” my tone both of concern and surprise.
“My project, after a year and a half, has been postponed, though probably cancelled.”
I know it to be related to the defense department and I know there have been cutbacks announced. It seems Roger has been downsized.
Having friends and acquaintances financially struggle is not good. Though my situation is stable, it is burdensome to be associated with contention, the inability to make a living fostering self doubt, the sense of uselessness seeps and depresses, pressure to find new employment can stress. Besides, Roger buys good wine, not to be procured again.
“I’ll need to cut expenses. Can’t cover the rent on an unemployment check.”
He’s hinting, and I am not committing. The situation requires thought.
