I looked at our picture in the warehouse which was taken right after our wedding. We looked so happy. We were so in love that nobody would ever think that we would be like what we are now. A lot of things have happened in just a span of three years. I gave up my dreams, and my career for him. Our company went bankrupt and my family became so poor that David had to shoulder their expenses because we literally lost everything. After a year, I lost contact with my parents because David wouldn't let me contact them, and he sent them so far away that I couldn’t afford to see them. Three years I feel like I am a prisoner of this hellhole, and I’ve been enduring this kind of treatment for three f*****g years of my life that it drained me so much. Still, I couldn’t even move a foot because I couldn’t leave him. I sometimes ask myself how I managed to endure everything. How did I put up with it when my parents didn’t even let me lift a finger when I was still on their roof? It must be because of my love for him that I’ve been enduring everything. My parents often told me that in order to know that you are deeply in love with someone, you must be willing to sacrifice everything for them, and I… who’s a fool in love, really sacrificed everything for him. “How long are you going to endure it, Dior?” Maya asked. She invited me for a coffee and, since David hasn’t come home for almost a month now, he doesn’t have much control to reprimand me from meeting my friends. “That f*cker has been treating you like s**t and I…! I just can’t believe that you’re putting up with him after all what he has done! You’re really something, you know?” “I love him, Maya.” Maya laughed and looked at me as if she heard something ridiculous. “You called that love? David has been mistreating you for three years! Is that what you call love? F*ck!” I sighed. “I love him, and I am just waiting for him to go back the way he was before, Maya.” “You’ve been waiting for him for three f*cking whole years, and you think that wasn’t enough for him to change his ways? You think he will go back to the way he was before?! Stupid! You are smart, Dior, but why are, when it comes to him, you’re talking like a total moron?” “I don’t know anymore. It’s just that divorce is such a big step. I’ll just give him another chance...” “Are you kidding me? You’ve been giving him chance after chance!” Maya shouted angrily. She leaned on the seat’s backrest and massaged her temples. I can see that she’s desperately telling me to divorce David. I can’t blame her and I totally understand her reasons. I love David but not blindly. I know that what he’s been doing isn’t a service of love and that there is no sign of respect for me in all of his actions, but I just can’t bring myself to leave him after all. Even when I know that he’s angry with me and that anger is what he has been clinging on to for three years, the reason why he has been mistreating me, insulting me, and stomping on me like s**t, I still can’t bring myself to hate him. I saw all of his flaws and I have come to love and embrace them all. Maya sighed in defeat. “Fine! I won’t be convincing you to divorce him any further because, for all I know, I would just be wasting my energy. You just never listen!” “Thank you, Maya,” I declared. I stared at my coffee and let out a small smile. Having a friend like her is a real blessing. She never badmouths me, understands me, definitely won’t sell me off, and was there when I needed someone to hold her. A true friend who never left when I lost everything. “Oh, shut up! You don’t have to thank me for something like the bare minimum,” she declared. She laughed as she looked at me. “Well, what do I expect from someone whose husband is a total jackass bastard?” She laughed without humor. Maya sighed and handed out a pink envelope. “Riley is inviting you to his sister’s debutante party. Please attend and wear something nice. What happened to my model friend?” she asked as she looked at me with raised brows.
