My Hope

I got outside and already missed her but I had to rein it in. Jackson had sent me a mind link and it involved the safety of my princess. Jackson was waiting for me by the car and I stopped in front of him. “Explain to me one more time.” I told him, I had only heard enough of his mind link to understand she was in danger. But I didn’t catch what it was about, I was too into touching her and looking at her.

He straightened up as he got in the driver’s seat and I hopped into the passenger side. “Some of our hunters found a few of the wolves from her old pack. And one has already threatened to kill her because the bright light we saw apparently caused his mate’s death.” I growled at this news as we began to drive. I didn’t care if her light killed half that pack, no one has the right to kill her for protecting herself. And she was in no state to defend herself again. 

“That’s f*****g stu-“ I stopped talking when I saw a wolf leap in front of our car. Jackson’s eyes widened as he turned and came to a screeching halt, only a hair from hitting the wolf. But it didn’t so much as flinch. I rubbed my temples, I had hit my head on the window and now it throbbed but thankfully, the pain subsided quickly. Something about the wolf intrigued me. “Jackson. It’s blue.” Right after I said that, I blinked and suddenly the blue wolf was gone. What the f**k?

Jackson didn’t say anything and I looked over to see him sending out a message to all the pack’s alphas. I let out a breath and leaned my head back. My eyes closed but I couldn’t get the image of the blue wolf out of my mind. Blue. That’s not normal. Not at all. So what the f**k was going on? The wolf was small, with light blue fur and ocean blue eyes. It was pretty and when I thought about it more... did I see a white diamond on her forehead? “Come on. Kaylee says they will move Bianca to your penthouse as carefully and safely as they can. She said to meet her there when we are done with the other wolves.” I nod automatically and he continues to drive.

We don’t speak again the whole way to the police station on my territory. I get out of the car and Jackson follows me inside. But I’m still thinking about that wolf. Who was it? Cortez growled when we get close to the place three wolves are being held. All are locked up in separate cells. Two are in there human form, but the last one is the one I go to first. I can tell he’s the one that threatened Bianca. I know what it looks like to be in distress after losing your mate and this wolf is pacing and growling angrily.

Listen here, Cortez starts but I cut him off. This wolf isn’t a part of our pack so he can’t hear our mind link. That doesn’t mean he can’t still communicate with me. 

I spend two hours questioning all three of them. One of them was a female and far more compliant. She had short, pixie-cut green hair and jade green eyes. Her skin is dark so I subconsciously give her the nickname of ‘Tree’. I should have felt bad. But I didn’t. The way she talked about Bianca made me want to scream. I barely reined in Cortez as we spoke with her.

The guy in human form apparently was mute. He looks like a muscular male replica of Tree so I dubbed him ‘Tree 2’. Obviously he didn’t give us any answers but he acted a lot younger than he looked. And definitely not tough. He was big but very scared of me and Jackson.

The one in wolf form was a beige wolf with almost black eyes, but that was probably because he was so angry. I hated talking with him because all he kept saying was how much he wanted to tear Bianca to shreds for killing his mate. He said nothing that was useful.

Jackson and I left with only some answers. All we knew was that everyone in their pack hated Bianca and so they abused her. But I didn’t get much more than that. I hoped Bianca would tell me on her own. Of course, I wasn’t going to ask her now. That would be cruel, given how weak she is right now. I want to help her get better before I question her. And there was still no chance she would tell me. I just had to hope she would let me help her.
