Chapter 9

1310 Words
Jakon? Where are you? Phoenix asked, shocked. I am in the packhouse but I felt your distress. Where are you? Are you okay? Jakon asked, concernedly. I am scared, but otherwise I am okay. Do Mom and Dad know that I am missing? Phoenix asked. No, I was just about to go tell them that I thought something was wrong when I didn’t see you in science class or after school. Jakon answered. Don’t tell them just yet. I am not the only one here and I know that if Mr. Cameron gets wind that my parents are looking for me, he may hurt the other person or wolf here. He seems to think that he knows everything that there is to know about our kind. He showed me very recent pictures of what I can only assume are rogue attacks on humans. He is a Hunter, Jakon. I need to figure out exactly how much he knows about us. I know that he could have easily found the packhouse from my school records, but I have a feeling that he is trying to use me to set up a trap my mom and dad. Phoenix sent matter-of-factly. She sat up a little taller, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves. So, what am I supposed to say when you don’t come home? It’s not like your presence will go unnoticed. You are the Alpha and Luna’s daughter remember? Jakon asked, with a duh tone in his voice. He really wanted to go along with her plan, but there were quite a few holes. Not to mention that now he knew that she was in trouble, his wolf was wanting to hunt her down and save her. Take mother aside first, by herself. She is more likely to listen to what you are saying that way. Tell her my plan. Gauge her reaction. If she agrees, she will not call my father. If she calls him, let me know. Because I fear if they come looking for me, it may lead to a lot of bigger problems that could put the entire pack in....danger........Phoenix sent, her voice beginning to sound weak towards the end. Phoenix? What’s going on? Are you okay? You aren’t sounding good. Jakon sent concernedly. I am....just getting.....really sleepy......I think he.......has pumped something.....into my room to..........knock me out........Phoenix was barely able to send before the connection seemed to cut out. Shit. Growled Jakon’s Wolf. We need to go get her. She is in danger. Patience, Wolf. We will do what she has asked of us. Just keep an eye on that connection. Alert me when she wakes up. Jakon growled back at his wolf. He then set off to find Luna Casey to fill her in on what was going on with her daughter. But luckily, he hadn’t taken four steps into the house before he had bumped right into the Luna herself. “Oh, Jakon, have you seen Phoenix? I just tried calling her and it just rang and went to voicemail. I was going to take her to look at dresses for the upcoming school dances,” Casey said, hurriedly. She was looking over his shoulder, craning her neck to see if Phoenix was behind him somewhere on the porch. “Luna, I need to tell you something. Can we talk somewhere privately, please?” Jakon asked, respectively. He lowered his eyes as he asked. This caught Casey off guard. “Of course, we can talk in the den. Come with me,” Casey said, calmly. She led the way through the house to the den. Once Jakon had stepped through the door, she closed and locked it. “You are free to speak. What is this about, Jakon?” Casey asked, sensing that something was wrong. Jakon took a deep breath before speaking, “Phoenix has been abducted.” “What?!” Casey almost shouted. She made a move towards the door. Jakon gently touched her arm to stop her. “My Luna, please. Listen to what I have to say first,” Jakon said, almost pleadingly. “Talk quickly, Jakon,” Casey said, her voice sounding anxious. “I have been in communication with her, and she has asked that you give her time to figure out how much this guy knows about our pack. He was able to abduct her after she had eaten a piece of candy that was laced with Verbain. But she is okay, I can sense that. Her first priority is the safety of the pack. She believes that the one who has abducted her is a hunter and the last thing that she wants is to lead him to any of us. She asks that you give her time to figure things out,” Jakon said, watching Casey closely. “A possible Hunter has my daughter, and she wants me to let her stay there? Is she crazy? I mean, her idea isn’t horrible but that is really dangerous on her part,” Casey said, more to herself than to Jakon. She started pacing, seeming to really think about her daughter’s plan. She suddenly paused in her pacing and swung around staring at Jakon, “Wait, you can communicate with her and sense her well-being?” Casey asked, trying hard not grin. “Yes, ma’am,” Jakon said with confidence. “No matter how much Phoenix tries to fight it, I believe that we are mates. My wolf has been wanting to claim her as ours since her first Shift Moon. But I am waiting until she accepts me. It’s the least that I can do after all the things I did to her after I first got here. She was right, I was a total jerk to her,” Jakon said, sadly. “And as crazy as it sounds, I agree with her. That is the only reason I am not hunting her down myself right now. The safety of the pack needs to come first, especially if this guy is a hunter.” Casey nodded her head, “Agreed, but if I tell Shane he will not see it that way. He will go looking for Phoenix, no matter the danger. We need to keep this between us for as long as possible. When we can figure out as much about the situation as possible or we feel like it is becoming too dangerous, we will fill Shane in. For now, if he asks, she is over at her friend Sarah’s house. Think Sarah would cover for her if he were to call?” “I think she would. I will talk to her at school tomorrow. I will also let Phoenix know your answer,” Jakon said. Casey nodded, deep in thought again as she headed towards the door. She paused with her hand on the doorknob, “Jakon, I am glad that you are her mate. I know in my heart that the Goddess put you two together to do amazing things.” “Thank you, Luna Casey. That means a lot,” Jakon said, bowing his head respectively. Jakon’s wolf perked up as Jakon felt a sudden connection from Phoenix, she was awake again. Phoenix, you’re awake. How are you feeling? Are you okay? Did they hurt you? Jakon fired the questions so fast that she had to snicker at his worried tone. Yeah, I am fine, worry wort. Did you talk to my mother? Your mother is on our side. Jakon answered. That is good, because you are never going to believe what I have to tell you. J, Helen is alive. She is in the room next to mine. That wasn’t her body that they found on the side of the road. Phoenix sent, hurriedly. Then the connection ended just as suddenly as he had felt it.
