Chapter 4

Silence strangled the council chamber. Nyra could barely breathe, The Moon Heir The words echoed through her skull, cold and heavy, settling deep in her bones. A queen, A destroyer, A legend. Her knees weakened, “That’s impossible,” she whispered. Every eye in the chamber remained fixed on her. Elder Ronan’s voice was grave. “The prophecy is older than this pack, older than our territories, It speaks of a child born from divine blood, hidden among the weakest, rising in a time of imbalance,” Nyra shook her head. “I’m not divine, I’m nothing.” “You were,” Ronan said quietly, “Until now,” Her heart thundered violently. She glanced at Kael, searching for something denial, reassurance, or protection. His jaw was clenched. “You believe this?” Kael demanded. “I fear it,” Ronan replied, “Power like hers does not awaken without reason, and if the prophecy is true, then enemies will already be moving.” A ripple of unease swept through the chamber. “Enemies?” Nyra whispered. “Kings,” Ronan said, “Alphas, Supernatural rulers who would kill to control you or destroy you.” A chill sank into her bones. Kael stepped in front of her without thinking, his body a shield, “No one touches her.” Ronan met his gaze steadily, “You cannot fight the world, Alpha,” Kael’s voice dropped. “Watch me.” That night, sleep completely abandoned Nyra. She lay curled in the massive bed, staring at shadows crawling across the ceiling. Every creak of the fortress made her flinch. Every whisper of wind felt like approaching danger. The prophecy It twisted inside her chest, tightening with each breath. If she truly was the Moon Heir, then everything she had suffered all the pain, the cruelty, the loneliness had it been fate? Or preparation? Her door opened silently, She stiffened, Kael stepped inside. Moonlight carved sharp lines across his face, casting his silver eyes into eerie brightness. “You’re awake,” he said quietly. “I don’t think I’ll ever sleep again.” He hesitated before approaching, stopping a few steps away. “You’re afraid, “Yes,” A pause. “You should be,” Her breath hitched. “I won’t lie to you,” he continued, “If the prophecy is true, your existence threatens every throne, You will be hunted.” Her throat tightened, “Then why don’t you kill me now?” The words fell into the silence between them, fragile and raw. Kael’s eyes flashed dangerously, “Never say that again.” His voice was low, rough. “I would burn the world before I let harm come to you.” Her heart stumbled painfully. “Why?” she whispered, He stiffened. “Because you are mine,” he said harshly. “And because,” His voice faltered, just slightly, “Because I can’t imagine a world where you do not exist.” Her chest tightened. She turned her face away, afraid he would see the tears. Morning brought no peace. Training resumed, but now the entire pack watched her with a mixture of awe and fear. No one laughed, No one insulted her. But neither did they come close. She was alone in a sea of wolves, and Kael personally oversaw her training. “Again,” he commanded. Nyra staggered, sweat dripping down her spine, muscles trembling, She lifted her hand, summoning the silver fire that pulsed beneath her skin. The energy exploded outward, cracking stone and sending debris flying. She collapsed to her knees, gasping, Kael was instantly at her side. “Enough,” he snapped, hauling her up. “I can do more,” she insisted weakly. “Not at the cost of your life.” His grip tightened on her arm, Their gazes locked. The air thickened, Her pulse raced. Slowly, his hand slid down to her wrist, thumb brushing over her skin. The bond flared violently,Her breath caught. He released her abruptly, stepping back as if burned. “Rest,” he ordered hoarsely, “That’s not a request.” That evening, Nyra stood on the balcony, staring out at the vast forest blanketed in silver moonlight. So much world, so many dangers. She wondered how many enemies already whispered her name. Behind her, the doors burst open. Kael spun, senses flaring. A warrior staggered in, blood streaming down his temple. “Alpha,” he gasped, “Border Patrol slaughtered.” Kael stiffened, “By who?” “Rogues,” the warrior whispered, “But not ordinary rogues.” Nyra’s heart slammed violently. “What do you mean?” Kael demanded. “They were organized,” he said, “Armed, and they asked for her.” Silence crashed, and Nyra went cold. “They knew my name,” he continued shakily, “They said deliver the Moon Heir, and the pack would be spared.” Kael’s eyes blazed, “Where are they now?” “Retreated into the eastern forest, but Alpha this was a warning.” Nyra’s chest tightened painfully,Kael turned to her. “Pack what you need,” he said sharply, “We leave tonight.” Fear surged, “Where?” “Somewhere no one can reach you.” “But the pack” “Can defend itself,” he snapped, “You cannot.” She nodded, heart hammering. They rode under moonlight, Kael’s warriors forming a protective circle around them. Nyra clung to her horse, cloak whipping violently in the cold wind. The forest loomed thick and endless, Her instincts screamed, They were being watched. Hours passed, then the air shifted. Kael raised his fist, The pack froze, Silence swallowed the woods. Nyra’s breath fogged in front of her. A low growl rolled through the darkness. Dozens of eyes ignited between the trees. Silver, Red, Gold. Surrounding them. “Ambush,” someone whispered. Kael drew his blade, aura exploding outward. “Stay behind me,” he commanded. The first rogue lunged. Chaos erupted. Steel clashed, Wolves roared, Blood sprayed across the forest floor. Kael moved like death itself, cutting through enemies with brutal precision. Nyra’s heart pounded violently as a rogue broke through the line, eyes locked on her. “She’s here!” he screamed. He charged,Instinct screamed. Power surged Silver fire exploded from Nyra’s palms, slamming into him midair and incinerating him before he hit the ground, The forest went deathly still. All eyes turned to her: terror, Awe, Hunger, Kael spun, shock flashing across his face. “Nyra” A scream tore through the night. She barely had time to turn before being detonated across her skull. The world shattered, Darkness swallowed her whole. When Nyra opened her eyes, the world was unfamiliar. Stone ceiling, Iron bars. Chains wrapped around her wrists, Panic slammed through her chest. She tried to move, but Pain screamed. Her head throbbed violently, Footsteps echoed. A tall figure stepped into view, face hidden beneath a hood. “Well,” a smooth voice purred, “The Moon Heir finally wakes,” Terror flooded her veins, “Where am I?” she whispered. The man chuckled softly. “In my kingdom,” he said, “And soon you will belong to me.” Her heart dropped.“Kael,” she breathed. The man tilted his head, “You mean the Alpha who failed to protect you?” Her chest tightened painfully. “Don’t worry,” he added calmly, “He’s still alive.” She exhaled shakily, “For now.”
