CHAPTER NINE: Beyond The Contract. That night, they stood on the balcony, city lights shimmering below. “Technically,” Aria said, “we still have six months left,” “Technically,” he agreed. She held up the contract, retrieved from her drawer. He raise an eyebrow. With deliberate slowness, she tore it in half. Then again and again. The pieces scattered into the wind. “That’s reckless” he said. She smiled. “So is marrying a stranger.” He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around her. “I don’t want an expiration date,” he said. “Good” she replied “because I’m not signing another one.” He laughed softly, pressing his forehead to hers. “Aria Malhotra,” he said “will you stay married to me-without clauses, without conditions? She pretended to consider. “Only if you agree to co-chair the sustainability foundation.” He groaned. “You’re negotiating o our anniversary? “Always.” He kissed her-warm, certain, no hesitation. Below them, the city hummed. Above them, the future stretched wide and unwritten. No longer a contract. But a choice. And this time, they chose each other. Aria took his hands and placed it on her stomach. She looked at him with a smile on her face. “My love, you’re pregnant?” He asked with a smile on his face. He carried her with excitement and kissed her warmly. “I will let grandmother know about this” dev said happily. Aria smiled looking at him. “We’ll go visit grandmother tomorrow morning sweet, get prepared.” He said. Aria nodded smiling. It was morning, the next day. Aria dressed in a red beautiful shiny short gown with hair styled beautifully with a beautiful expensive handbag with red heels. While Dev dressed mainly with his grey colored suit with tie sitting rightfully at his neck. Hair combed and neatly styled. They left his penthouse together. After 2 hours of driving, they arrived at a huge gate. The gate automatically opened and he droves straight to the garage and stopped the car. Dev came out of his car and went to the other door and opened it for Aria his wife. Aria stood out of the door and was amazed. She stared at the glass mansion in front of them and she looked at Dev “is this where grandmother stays?” She asked. “Yes” Dev answered. He locked arms with Aria and they walked in together. The mansion guards dressed in black suit standing in front of the mansion glass door welcomes them as they walked inside, the cleaners, the cooks, the maids all dressed in a white waist apron came to welcome them as well. A tall white old woman called Mrs. Diana Malhotra dressed in a cream colored gown, a shoulder length white hair curled and beautifully styled with a white stiletto heels at her feet, looking strong and beautiful. She came downstairs to welcome her grandson and his wife. “Dev darling”, she said surprisingly. “How are you doing my boy?” “I’m very fine grandmother” Dev said smiling. “You’ve got a wife already son?” She asked surprised. “ and you didn’t inform me darling” she added. “I’m sorry for not informing you grandmother but I have come to introduce her to you and also to tell you a good news as well” he said. “Alright, what is the news all about my child?” She asked. Three maids dressed in a white waist apron came out of the kitchen together, each of them carrying a tray which contains vanilla tea in a teacup and four wafers at the side of the teacup. They placed it together in front of each of them. “Grandmother, this is Aria my wife, Aria this is Mrs. Diana Malhotra, the female founder of the Malhotra group, my grandmother. Dev introduced both of them to each other. “Good day, Mrs. Diana, I’m Aria Malhotra, Dev’s wife.” She said. “Oh, come on Aria, you can call me grandmother.” She said “we are family after all. Aria smiled. “Dev darling” his grandmother called. “What is the good news you wanna share with me?” She asked. “Aria my wife, is pregnant with my child grandmother.” Dev said smiling. “Really?” She asked happily. “You are gonna be a father soon dearest son and i a great grandmother” she said happily. “Dearest child, would you like to stay with me for some days?” She asked Aria. “I would love to grandmother if my husband will permit” she said respectfully. “Dearest son, won’t you want your wife to stay with me for some days?” She asked “you can also stay if you wanna be with her” she added. “I would love to grandmother, but I don’t wanna make you go to the kitchen to cook for me” he said. “You will always wanna cook for me each time I’m hungry because you know I love your dishes” he added. “Don’t you worry son, I’m not complaining, I love seeing my grandchild around me” she said. They agreed to stay with Mrs. Diana Malhotra, Dev’s grandmother without minding the long distance to their work place.
