CHAPTER FIVE: Unwritten Clause. Winter arrived with a charity trip to a remote village where Malhotra group was installing solar grids. The media presence was minimal – just a few local reporters. Without the usual flashbulbs, things felt… normal. Aria spent the day speaking with families about energy access. Dev oversaw logistics, sleeves rolled up, hair tousled by wind. At Dusk, The village children insisted on lightening the first solar- powered lantern together. The gathered in the Square. When the switch flipped and warm light flooded the area, cheers erupted. Aria felt tears sting her eyes. Dev looked at her, something unguarded in his expression. “You did this”, he said quietly. “We did” she corrected. Later, back at the modest guesthouse, the power flickered out temporarily. They ended sitting on the floor, backs against the bed, sharing a single lantern. “It’s strange”, Dev said. “I’ve closed a billion dollar deals. But this feels bigger”. She smiled faintly. “Impact usually does”. He turned towards her. “You’re different here”. He said. “How”? She asked “Less defensive” he answered She snorted. “Maybe I don’t need to be”. Silence settled. Then, softly: “Do you regret it”? He asked. “The marriage “? Aria asked “Yes” Dev answered She thought about the field trials progressing, the headlines shifting, the warmth in her chest when he looked at her like that. “No” she admitted. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face. The gesture was hesitant- asking. She didn’t pull away when he kissed her, it wasn’t strategic. It wasn’t for cameras. It was slow, tentative, real. Clause five dissolved into irrelevance.
