Chapter Nine CONSEQUENCES“I’m amazed your horse came back,” Kirwan commented as Phoenix reached the beach. She turned to see Mikaere nibbling grass from the sand bank. Kirwan’s horse tried to follow, backing up at speed at the sight of Mikaere’s hind leg lifting in threat. “Of course, he did. Where’s the fun in causing mayhem if you don’t stick around to see the damage?” Phoenix leaned forward to scoop another handful of water over her cut.
