The house was as silent as a graveyard when I pushed the front door open, Alec behind me. The silence immediately felt wrong. Usually Anna was somewhere around the house, humming while cooking, folding clothes in the living room, or watching one of her boring shows. But this time there was nothing. She was a housewife, she barely went out. I frowned slightly as I slipped my shoes off near the door. “Anna?” I called absentmindedly while dropping my bag on the couch. No answer.
