Late that night,
Alyssa's grip tightened on the tray in her hold.
A look of reluctance appeared in her gaze, but in a flash, just as it came, it left the same.
Her gaze sauntered to the cup of coffee on the tray before a quick exhale left her lips—She was nervous!
Raising her first, she delivered a quiet knock on the protective door.
A door she shouldn't be closed to.
Yet surprisingly, “Come in,”
Her grip on the tray hardened into a squeeze.
His tone was rather calm and low, contrary to how it normally sounded when he was in the mood to wreak havoc.
Sighing, Alyssa made sure to be in full play, as her expression immediately softened before she struggled to pull the knob and finally get it right—Of course, it's part of her facade.
Zion was tiredly spiraled on his massive king-size bed, with his left hand shielding his eyes and one of his long legs folded underneath the other.
From the moment he heard his maid struggling with the door she usually opens, he knew something was amiss.
“—Sir,”
His thick dark brows curled downwards sharply, the moment he heard that familiar voice.
Yet, he didn't move from his position.
Alyssa's gulp traveled through the track of her throat, even seeing him motionless was another big scare to her heart.
She couldn't help but ask herself, ‘What was I thinking doing this?’
But she knew the answer; for the quickness of her mission.
“Sir, y—your cof—arghh!!!” definitely she hadn't expected that.
Before she could complete her statement, Zion had launched at with a swift move she hadn't even seen coming.
“What the hell are you doing here?” his hand firmly squeezing onto her neck, he growled in anger.
Oh great!
Alyssa thought, ‘first my chin, and now my neck,’
This couldn't get any worse.
Looking into his bloodthirsty eyes, Alyssa knew that her oxygen would soon be cut short.
“I…just wanted t—to bring you coffee,” she managed to spout, hurting from the merciless grip he had on her neck.
The piercing wickedness in his cold grey eyes made her regret why she chose this, every time she looked at them.
When the reason for why she was here hits her, she'll finally take things as they come her way.
Looking at those malicious, yet beautiful eyes, Alyssa whimpered, making it obvious that she was scared of his hands on her.
After her explanation, Zion's glare sharpened and his frown more frosty than ever.
His grip tightened around her neck.
His action alerted her. Alyssa was sure he was going to kill her.
That slight slant of his head said it all.
“I wanted to apologize for causing a r—rift between you and your brother. I—'m sorry—” Her breath was getting shorter the longer he held on to her.
Even with that, Alyssa didn't let the tray of coffee in her hands hit the ground.
She secured it firmly in a protective vice—the bedrock of her plans lies in it.
“How dare you come in here! Do you have a death wish?” his deep tone vibrated sweetly in her ears when he forcibly drew her towards him.
Alyssa shuddered at their proximity.
He knelt on the bed. Even so, his broad figure still towered over her petite body.
His unanticipated move caught her off guard, and inevitably caused the coffee to spill on the tray as it collided with his hard and sturdy chest.
Only then did Alyssa's expression shift, and of course, he was fast enough to catch it.
“Please please let me go,” she begged with words dripping with tears. “I'm sorry,” beads of sweat-drenched her forehead, making her look frightened to the core.
Zion's hard glare had not subsided, even coupled with the relentless fear in her eyes.
Rather, he smirked malevolently, and the wicked urge to see her in tears increased.
“Please, Master, let me go, I beg you,” she croaked out hopefully. Knowing he loved to be begged.
Not like she couldn't swat his hand away from her; but could she risk exposing her identity?—and again, he's abnormally strong.
An assassin like her will require enough strength and time to do away with him.
“Why should I let you go?” his sinister smile made her shiver. “You're the one who walked in here on your own,” he whispered sardonically, sending chills down her feet.
“Please, I beg you,” she begged in sorrow once again, “I just wanted to bring you your night coffee,” struggling to coherent a sentence, Alyssa finally had tears well up in her eyes.
Only then did he, after scrutiny, let her go.
By then the prints of his fingers had already got latched into her skin.
Imprinted like a burn.
Alyssa was baffled if it was her, or did she see the satisfaction in his eyes when he saw the repercussions of his action on her?
Well, she didn't have enough time when she quickly used a hand to support the tray of coffee, and her other hand chased to her burning neck to soothe the pain.
She coughed wildly, wishing she was able to glare evidently at him, but hell no!
She wouldn't risk that.
Already, her innocent girl facade was igniting his flame and suspicion, what more would her natural behavior do?
Alyssa was still in the process of gathering herself when she heard him say,
“Drink it,”
Slowly, she raised her sight to his figure still kneeling all tall on his huge-sized bed.
Her gaze held questions.
And as if he knew, he gestured towards the coffee in her hand by flickering one of his captivating brows.
“The coffee, drink it,” he ordered stoically.
Alyssa's gaze lowered to the cup and then at him, she blinked and parted her mouth to speak,
“Master, it's for y—you…”
“I know; drink it,” his deep voice uttered.
“Then…how can I have what belongs to Master?” she timidly muttered, looking confused and scared.
Zion gracefully placed one long leg down after another, to alight the bed.
His lifeless gaze flickered with something when he heard her gasp and step away.
His voice came off, slow and stealth, “If I say…you can have it, then you can,” his gaze bored strongly right into her trembling eyes.
