Chapter 10:The Masterpiece

"Clara! Don't you dare hang up on—" I pressed the red button, cutting Julian off mid-scream. The sudden silence in the luxurious dressing room was incredibly sweet. I tossed the phone onto the velvet ottoman, not caring if he tried to call back a hundred times. He was entirely beneath me now. "Does the gown meet your satisfaction, Miss Evans?" the boutique manager asked, his voice trembling slightly as he adjusted the long, dramatic train of the backless black dress. I looked at my reflection. The fabric hugged every curve of my body perfectly, slashing low at the thigh and dropping down to the small of my back in a way that was both elegant and devastatingly provocative. It didn't look like a dress you wore to a party; it looked like armor meant for a conqueror. "It's perfect," I said, a cold smile playing on my lips. "Pack it up. Along with everything else." As the staff scurried to wrap my new luxury wardrobe, the heavy glass doors of the boutique pushed open. The scent of cedarwood and pure dominance flooded the room instantly, making the human employees drop their heads in instinctual submission. Alpha Silas walked in. He had discarded his tie, the top two buttons of his charcoal suit shirt undone, giving him a raw, dangerous look. His molten gold eyes swept over the boutique until they locked onto me. He stopped in his tracks, his gaze tracking from the diamonds at my throat, down the length of the black silk gown, to the high slit showing my leg. For a fraction of a second, the powerful billionaire looked completely breathless. A dark, intense hunger flared in his eyes, far more potent than any fated mate bond I had ever felt with Julian. "Alpha Silas," I murmured, stepping off the small podium and walking toward him. "How was your board meeting?" Silas slowly recovered his composure, a wicked, proud smirk replacing his brief shock. He stepped closer, his heavy aura wrapping around me like a velvet blanket. He reached out, his large, warm hand settling firmly against the bare skin of my exposed back. A jolt of electricity snapped between us, making my breath hitch. "My son spent the entire meeting sweating," Silas whispered, his deep voice vibrating right against my ear. "He kept staring at his phone, watching the transaction alerts. He tried to bring it up to me, complaining that a thief was draining the corporate accounts." I tilted my head back, looking into his golden eyes. "And what did you tell him?" "I told him it was none of his business," Silas murmured, his thumb lazily tracing a slow circle against my spine. "And that the card belongs to the most valuable asset this pack currently owns." The intimacy of his touch made my heart race, but I didn't pull away. We were in this together now. "The gala is in two days, Clara," Silas said, his eyes dropping to my lips before rising back to mine. "Julian thinks he is going to introduce Vivian as the future Luna of the Silver Crescent Pack. But the moment we walk through those doors together... his world is going to end." I smiled, leaning into his touch just a fraction. "I can't wait to watch it burn."
