Chapter 6:The Elite Escort

517 Words
The morning sun broke through the dusty curtains of my tiny, rented apartment on the outer edges of the pack grounds. It was a miserable little place, a stark contrast to the luxury of the Vance estate, but I hadn’t slept a wink. My skin still felt hot where Alpha Silas had touched me, his deep, commanding whisper echoing in my head on a loop. Tomorrow morning, my driver will collect you. Don't be late. I checked the cheap clock on my nightstand. 7:55 AM. Exactly five minutes before the top of the hour, a sleek, jet-black luxury sedan with darkly tinted windows rolled smoothly down the gravel road, stopping right outside my building. The car practically screamed extreme wealth and untouchable status. Passersby—mostly low-ranking pack members—stopped and stared, whispering furiously among themselves. The door opened, and a tall, stern-faced wolf in a sharp black suit stepped out. It was Alpha Silas’s personal beta and head of security, a high-ranking warrior who usually ignored anyone below elite status. He walked straight to the entrance of my building, but I was already stepping through the front doors. "Clara Evans?" his voice clipped the air. "Yes," I replied, keeping my head high despite my faded jeans and simple blouse. He offered a stiff, formal bow, completely catching the onlookers off guard. "Alpha Silas sent me. Please, step inside." He opened the back door for me, and as I slid onto the pristine leather seats, the rich, subtle scent of cedarwood and dark chocolate instantly filled my nose. It was Silas's private vehicle. As the car smoothly accelerated toward the pack’s central business district—where Silas ran his multi-billion-dollar corporate empire—my phone buzzed violently in my hand. I looked down at the screen. It was a text from Julian. Julian: Where the hell are you? You missed the morning omega roll call. If you're hiding out trying to make me feel guilty, it’s not working. You’re banned from the pack house. Get your things out by noon, or I'm burning them. A cold, mocking smile spread across my face. I didn't bother typing a reply. Instead, I blocked his number. He thought he was throwing me to the wolves. He had no idea I was on my way to see the king of the pack. The car bypassed the residential sectors completely, pulling up to the private underground garage of the Vance Tower—a massive glass skyscraper that dominated the city skyline. The security gates opened instantly for the vehicle. When the car stopped, the driver opened my door. "The Alpha is waiting for you on the top floor, Miss Evans. The private elevator will take you straight up." My heart did a nervous flip against my ribs, but I forced my expression into a mask of pure confidence. I stepped into the elevator, the glass doors sealing shut as it began its rapid ascent to the highest peak of power in the territory.
