Addison spent forty-nine hours trapped in that hole before Lydia found her. The hole had ultimately been too narrow for her burgeoning belly and it had taken her a full day to make it to her final resting place, at which point, she realized she could go no further. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t move forward and yet she couldn’t make herself go back, either, so long as the cuff and chain were firmly attached to her ankle.
