I couldn’t believe what was happening!
With my mind hazed in panic, I quickly used the backdoor, didn’t mind taking some of my belongings, and just snatched Jeff’s old cloak that was hanging behind the door. His scent was still on the fabric, making my eyes water in grief. My chest was so tight that it was hard to breathe through the nose. The cold breeze of the night was biting on the skin and my throat was aching and swelling.
With quick steps and a racing heart, the noise of the angry men coming at the front of the house became more audible, as did Kendra’s wailing as she continued pretending to be a victim of the crime she had just committed. My teeth gnashed together in anger, and I swore to myself that she would pay for taking Jeff’s life!
But for now, I had to hurry as I dashed
