Elena quickly tidied herself up and stepped out the door.
A maid was waiting by the entrance. Seeing Elena, she asked, "Miss Miller, are you heading to the breakfast room now?"
"Breakfast room?" Elena asked curiously. "Is there a special room just for breakfast? Do you also have separate rooms for lunch and dinner?"
The maid immediately praised her, "Miss Miller, you are indeed very smart. The Young Master has very high standards for dining environments. Besides separate rooms for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there are also designated places for morning tea and afternoon tea."
Elena raised an eyebrow. "What if someone eats breakfast in the lunch room by mistake?"
The maid's expression turned serious. "The Young Master would probably have a headache for the entire day."
Elena understood. This President Hayes must have some degree of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
She didn't ask any more questions and simply followed the maid to the breakfast room.
The breakfast room was a house with large floor-to-ceiling windows. Outside, the Hayes Family's garden was in full bloom, offering a breathtaking view.
Shaun was sitting on a sofa, holding a newspaper, his expression stern and focused.
Elena was about to greet him when Uncle Fox hurriedly stopped her. He whispered, "Miss, this is the Young Master's newspaper time."
She quickly understood, "So, if we call him now, he'll get a headache?"
Uncle Fox nodded approvingly.
Elena: "..."
In her heart, Shaun had always been like the moon, high and distant.
But now, after noticing his little habits, that moon seemed to have descended to earth, touched by the warmth of everyday life.
Elena decided to respect Shaun's habits, so she quietly waited by his side.
While he read the newspaper, Elena, after getting Uncle Fox's permission, picked a book from the shelf and started reading.
The dining room fell silent, with only the occasional sound of pages turning. Time seemed to slow down in this quiet moment.
Uncle Fox glanced at Shaun, then at Elena and felt an unexpected sense of harmony.
"Uncle!"
Suddenly, a sharp voice shattered the peace.
Uncle Fox raised an eyebrow, showing a hint of displeasure.
He looked towards the door and saw Williams rushing in with Rosalie.
"Uncle, why wouldn't the guard let me in? I'm here today to formally discuss breaking off the engagement..."
Williams was speaking when he noticed Elena sitting on the couch.
His eyes widened in shock. "Elena, what are you doing here?"
Elena sighed and put down her book. What had she done in her past life to deserve running into Williams again?
"Uncle," Williams's voice turned cold, "is this woman here to twist the truth? I found out about what happened yesterday. The so-called setup was entirely her doing. Her goal was to tarnish the Miller Family's reputation! Uncle Richard and Aunt Veronica adopted her and gave her three years of a wealthy life. They did nothing wrong to her. Now, just because they love Rosalie a bit more, she comes up with this vicious scheme. Uncle, don't be fooled by her."
"Brother Williams, please stop," Rosalie gently tugged at his hand, tears welling up in her eyes. "Let's just say it's our Miller Family that owes Sister an apology."
"Rosalie! This woman is so malicious, yet you still think about her all the time! Don't be so foolish, it breaks my heart," Williams said, his face full of pity.
"Brother Williams," Rosalie was moved.
"Rosalie," Williams's voice grew even more tender.
Elena: "..."
She felt like she must have committed some grave sins, not just in her past life, but in the one before that too. Otherwise, why else would she have to endure such disgust?
Shaun felt a headache coming on again. With a blank expression, he said, "You came here early in the morning just to tell me this?"
Williams finally snapped out of it. Holding Rosalie's hand, he loudly declared, "Uncle. This Elena, she knew very well that the person I have always liked is Rosalie. Yet she deliberately imitated Rosalie to get close to me. I thought she was as innocent and pure as Rosalie, which is why I agreed to the engagement. But now I see she is nothing but a scheming, malicious, and selfish person. So, I want to break off the engagement! The one I truly love is Rosalie, and only her."
Williams tightened his grip on Rosalie's hand, his words ringing with determination, almost like a vow.
Rosalie was so moved that she was on the verge of tears.
Elena squinted her eyes, feeling a bit speechless. Breaking off the engagement? She couldn't be happier about it!
Elena couldn't help but say, "Then let's call off the engagement."
Williams had been dreaming of breaking off the engagement, but Elena agreeing so easily made him suspicious.
He glared at her and asked, "What are you up to now?"
Elena rolled her eyes. "You want to break off the engagement, and I agreed! What more do you want?"
Williams frowned slightly. "Elena, I'm warning you! Don't try any tricks."
Elena laughed in exasperation. "What tricks could I possibly play? The contract is still with the Miller Family. You can just destroy the contract and announce the breakup. I'll acknowledge it, and that's it, isn't it?"
Back then, to secure Williams, the golden catch, Richard had shrewdly signed a contract.
If the two of them didn't get engaged, it would be considered a breach of contract.
But Elena had no intention of clinging to him. As soon as he announced the breakup, she would definitely accept it. Then, the matter would be over.
It was a simple thing.
However, Williams's gaze towards her grew increasingly suspicious.
Could it really be that simple?
If Elena clung to him, he would find it disgusting.
But now that Elena agreed so readily, he felt a bit uncomfortable.
Why wouldn't Elena see him being such a catch and hold on to him for her dear life?
This woman must have some kind of scheme.
Thinking of this, Williams couldn't help but say coldly, "Fine. Then I want you to announce publicly that it's because you made a mistake that I'm breaking off the engagement."
Elena was so angry she laughed.
She had agreed to the breakup so readily, which already showed she was kind-hearted and generous. And now he wanted her to take the blame?
"What kind of daydream are you having?" Elena said without hesitation.
Williams immediately perked up. "Oh, so now your true colors are showing. You never intended to break off the engagement, did you? You actually..."
Williams's voice was sharp and high-pitched.
Shaun's frown deepened.
Being disrupted early in the morning and having to endure Williams's noisy voice again made his headache worse.
But Shaun was used to this kind of pain.
His face showed little emotion, but his voice grew colder.
"Shut up," Shaun said icily.
Williams looked at Shaun in disbelief.
He had always thought that Shaun valued him. This was the first time Shaun had spoken to him so bluntly.
Williams panicked. "Uncle, have you been deceived by this woman? She..."
He went on and on, and Shaun's expression grew even colder.
However, before he could lose his temper—
"Slap!"
Elena suddenly stepped forward and slapped Williams across the face.
Williams was stunned.
"Brother Williams!" Rosalie held his face, looking angrily at Elena. "Sister, what are you doing?"
Williams finally realized what was happening. He gritted his teeth and glared at Elena.
"So, you've finally shown your true colors! Elena, you..."
"Get out," Elena interrupted, pointing directly at the door.
Williams was stunned for a moment, then he started to laugh.
"This is my uncle's house. Who do you think you are to tell me to leave? Uncle, isn't this woman ridiculous?"
He turned to Shaun with a mocking smile.
Shaun raised an eyebrow, his expression indifferent.
"Uncle Fox, show him out."
Williams's smile widened, filled with spitefulness as he looked at Elena.
"See? You've made my uncle angry. Without the Miller Family, you're nothing but a low-class person. Did you really think my uncle would stand up for you? You're so naive..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Uncle Fox was already standing in front of him with a cold expression.
"Young Master Williams, please leave."
His smile froze on his face.
He looked at Uncle Fox in disbelief.
"Uncle Fox, are you sure you're not making a mistake?"
Uncle Fox's expression grew even colder.
"I didn't chase away the wrong person."
He couldn't be bothered to say more and directly called for the bodyguards.
"Wait, Uncle, I..."
Williams was still shouting loudly, but the bodyguards quickly covered his mouth and escorted him and Rosalie out together.
