"Gosh, I can't believe I abandoned this!" I couldn't even hear my own voice, thanks to my stuffed cheeks. Moments earlier, my stomach had been a source of irritation during the short and agonizing wait for the food to arrive. It didn't help that Ramon had been quiet, even more so than when he was in the desert. Awkward staring contest between us, plus the hunger soldiers that rebelled within my belly, was a terrible combination.
