Chapter Ten Over the next few days I established a simple routine. I’d wake up, wash up, then take Midge on a walk, dressed in whatever haute couture Joanna had conjured for me that day. Once that was done, I’d eat breakfast (always some decently palatable alien affair), then play fetch with Midge, throwing a fabricated tennis ball up and down the long, empty hallways. And when both of us were fetched out—well, it wasn’t like my schedule was booked. TV, movies, books—all of these Joanna could provide me at a moment’s notice, and I took to bringing a book up to the top deck every day.
