Chapter Eleven He’d cleared the scattered furniture from the center of the room and set up a table and chairs for just the two of us. An unexpected smell floated in the air—light notes of musk, something vaguely citrus-like. I spotted a little golden bowl on the table, its contents letting off wisps of smoke. That would be the incense. Del stood at the far side of the room, gazing out westward toward the mountains. The day was heading towards twilight, and the peaks were a misty purple in the gathering shadows. He turned to look at me, but stayed where he was by the window. He was straight-backed, stiff.
