At breakfast the next morning, Katie peppered Danny with a rapid-fire volley of questions about how his date had gone. He answered as best he could, all the while trying to conceal from his mother just how delighted he was with Evan. He feared his interest might be used as a weapon. Once his sister had finally run down, Danny requested a private meeting with his mother.
“Of course, Danny. I have many details of the wedding I need to go over with you today. So please do not make any plans.” When they were both seated in her study, Nessa asked, “From what you said to Katie, it sounded like you and Evan had an enjoyable evening. Did something else happen that you couldn’t say in front of your little sister?”
