Chapter 15
Nessa was in her study when they arrived at the house. Danny knocked and waited until she called for him to come in. She looked up in surprise as they entered. “Evan, I didn’t expect to see you this morning. Please sit down.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Carmody. It was quite a surprise for me as well.”
Danny broke in, ending the pleasantries. “Mother, Evan’s apartment was broken into and vandalized. It’s unfit to live in. I’ve invited him to stay with us for now.”
Evan could read the silent challenge in Danny’s eyes, willing her to be hospitable.
She didn’t disappoint. “Evan, that’s terrible. Are you all right?”
“Yes, ma’am. I wasn’t home at the time.”
“Well that’s a relief. And, of course, you are welcome to stay here with us. The guest room next to Danny’s should be suitable.”
