Two hours later Evan came awake to the hum of a low-voiced dispute being conducted outside his door. It sounded like Danny was arguing with a very insistent young girl. Hauling himself out of bed, he stretched his abused muscles and pulled on a pair of sweatpants. Nearing the door, he could hear more clearly.
“I just want to see him—just a peek,” said the female voice.
“No.”
“He won’t even know I was here. I won’t make a sound.”
“No, brat. Come away from there.”
“C’mon Danny, this isn’t fair!”
At this point, Evan swung open the door, startling the young girl, who jumped a good six inches in the air. Her eyes widened at the sight of Evan’s naked chest, and her mouth opened to form a perfect “O.” He turned his best smile on her and said, “Hi. I take it you’re Katie.”
