Chapter 13 Evan wasn’t surprised the buzzer for his apartment sounded precisely at eight o’clock. Like mother, like son. He shuddered at the thought. Pressing the intercom button, he spoke loudly over the static. “Hi, go straight down the hall. I’m on the first floor at the back of the building.” He opened the apartment door and waited. A minute later Danny walked in and looked around. “This is nice.” Evan appreciated the courtesy compliment, although his one-bedroom quarters in the aging, low-rent part of the city must seem sadly lacking compared to what Danny was used to. But the building was kept clean and in decent repair, and it suited Evan’s needs. “Come in. You’re going to want to change into your running clothes here.
