With the amount of venom we used to sedate our mate, we thought that she would be asleep for at least several hours, but to my utter surprise she had only slept an hour, maybe an hour and a half at most! I had no time to catch her as she lunged out of the SUV and shifted, then took off at a dead run to the packhouse.
I quickly got out and heard Sam growl, then a blood-curling scream. I raced to the open door to see Rollings choking my mate! I was stunned at first, but as I felt her fear through the bond I saw red! "RELEASE MY MATE...NOW!" I saw him release her, understanding my instincts to protect my mate. I still couldn't believe that Sam would attack a human stranger!
