CHAPTER THREE

BRAXTON POV Rollings and Christian quickly came to my side as I stood up from the table to face my father's wolf. "How dare I? How dare you AND mother! You are NOT the Alpha anymore and yet you both still think that you can make decisions for ME!" I boomed, Jackson was pushing his way to the front and I let him just a little so that I still had enough control to reign him in if the need should arise. My father was shaking with fury. "You were told that you HAD to find a mate by your twentieth birthday or forfeit the title!" I stepped closer to him and saw that my mother quickly came up behind her mate to help calm his temper. I stared at him in the eyes, showing him that I would not bow down. "I NEVER agreed to any such deal! I would never settle for any woman that is not MY MATE!" I looked at Alpha Roger before I continued. "Alpha Roger, if you wish to make an alliance with Shimmering Falls Pack, then we can meet in my office to talk in specifics, but it will not be through marriage to your daughter!" I turned back to my parents. "There is no law stating that I have to find a mate by my twentieth birthday, so I will be waiting for my mate. You are both hereby prohibited from contacting ANYBODY to arrange a marriage for me! You can both leave now and I personally don't want to see either of you until you can both apologize for overstepping your roles!" My father was about to object when Jackson surged forward. "I said NOW!" I could see that Blake, my father's wolf, finally retreated and my father and mother glared daggers at me before finally leaving without another word. Once I heard the door being shut, I looked at Alpha Roger Kentwood. "Shall we take this to my office?" I could see the hesitation on his face. His daughter noticed too. "Father, we need their help! What's the harm in at least talking with Alpha Braxton?" Alpha Roger smiled at his daughter, then looked at me. "Very well, Alpha Braxton, please lead the way." "As you wish, I hope the trip will be worth it for you both." I turned and headed up to my office on the second floor. I was still so pissed off at the audacity of my parents! I was so deep in thought that I hadn't realized that I had walked past my office until Rollings cleared his throat to get my attention. "Uh...Alpha, didn't you want to go for a run after dealing with business this morning?" I took a breath and schooled my expression to hide the embarrassment. "Yes, Beta Rollings, you are correct." I said as I turned to face him and Alpha Roger. Hopefully Alpha Roger doesn't believe that I don't know what I am doing as an Alpha. "My wolf is being a pain in the ass this morning, nagging me to go for a run." I let out a little chuckle. Hey! Don't use me as an excuse for you not paying attention! Jackson snarled at me, obviously not liking being blamed. Dude, I'll make it up to you alright, stop being such a girl! Whatever, I am not being a girl by the way! You owe me big time! With that being said he shut off the link. I internally roll my eyes, I know that he is pissed now. Great I have managed to piss off my only friend that is literally in my head! I thought to myself and opened the door to my office and allowed Rollings to hold the door for our guests. I walked over to my desk and sat in my padded desk chair and motioned for Alpha Roger and his daughter to take a seat on the other side of my desk, facing me. "Please have a seat and we can get down to business." I looked at my beta. "Could you grab me a coffee and our guests whatever they want?" I began grabbing my files on my desk to move them out of the way. "Of course, Alpha." He turned to Roger and Tammy. "Would either of you like anything to drink?" Roger just shook his head no and Tammy just smiled at him sweetly. "My father doesn't want anything but I would like a bottle of water if you have one, thank you." She batted her eyes at him trying to flirt with him. I just rolled my eyes at the interaction. Joke is on her. My best friend is also waiting for his mate. I mean he has never even kissed a girl! She was definitely barking up the wrong tree there, but Rollings will still act professionally because he takes his position of Beta very seriously. He politely smiled at her. "Ma'am I will bring you the water as requested, please refrain from flirting with me. I am waiting for my mate and a woman as noble and beautiful as yourself should also wait for your mate as well." I had to admit that Rollings had a natural charm that most women fell for. Tammy nodded her head in acknowledgement, then fiercely blushed as my beta headed to the kitchen to get our drinks. I didn't wait for him to return before I addressed my guests. I fold my hands together on the top of my desk before looking at them. "I would first like to apologize for my behavior earlier, I was angry and when you snubbed me I was very disrespected, my wolf and I felt very insulted." I look at Roger. "As a fellow Alpha you can understand how I reacted the way that I did." Roger nervously swallowed and I could feel fear rolling off of him in waves. "Alpha Braxton, please forgive me for my disrespect, I was under the wrong impression of you due to your father." He looked me in the eyes. "That is still no excuse for how I acted. I just hope that it doesn't affect your decision to help my pack." I looked him over for a moment. I could tell that it was hard for him to swallow his pride and apologize for the sake of his pack. I was very impressed that he acted like a true Alpha, putting his pack first. I accept your apology. Now please tell me how I can help you and your pack." At that moment, Rollings entered the office, gave Tammy her water and then handed me my coffee before taking a seat next to Christian on the couch. I nodded to Roger to start the conversation. He cleared his throat. "Rogues have become an ever more increasing threat to my pack. The first attack they took out the majority of my warriors and that left us weakened and vulnerable to more attacks." "How long ago was the first attack?" I was giving them my full attention and a little pissed that this was the first I heard of any attack close by. Tammy answered this time. "The first attack was three months ago, the second attack was two months ago. That attack, they killed all the elderly!" I could tell that these attacks were not normal rogue attacks. "When was the last attack and what happened?" I almost didn't want to know, but being an Alpha I had to help my fellow packs whether they were our allies or not. It came as a responsibility to having the strongest and most feared pack in North America. Roger took a shaky breath. "The last attack was two weeks ago." His eyes glassed over and he was having trouble finding the words to continue. Tammy placed her hand on her father's arm in an attempt to comfort him. She then turned to me with tears streaming down her face. "They took about twenty unmated females between the ages of 16 to 25 years of age. They raped and marked them against their will right in front of us! They also told us that their king would be back for the rest of the unmated females in one month's time!" My anger flared at what they did. "Alpha Roger, I agree to be your ally and in return I want you to send all pack members, men and women, who want to be trained to be pack warriors to me immediately! I will send my Gamma and twenty of my best warriors to help defend your pack against more attacks as your members train here." Roger looked at me with hope and gratitude evident in his eyes. "Thank you so much Alpha Braxton! As soon as we arrive back home, I will send all those who want to train over immediately!" I looked over to Christian. "Gamma, please go and pick the top twenty warriors to bring with you and escort Alpha Roger and his daughter back to their pack." He stood and bowed to me. "Yes Alpha." He then left the office. I looked at Roger. "Alpha Roger, you and your daughter are welcome to stay in the guest rooms on the third floor and you will be escorted to your home in the morning." I linked an omega to escort Roger and Tammy to their rooms. Once they were gone, I bowed my head in my hands, rubbing my temples to ease the-coming headache. "So...What is next on today's agenda?" I asked my beta without looking up. "Well, we still have to discuss about the gym you want to buy as part of the advanced training program you want to implement." Rollings said as he moved to the chair that Roger had just vacated. He tossed me a file with all the information that I requested about said gym. I could feel Jackson release the block and noticed that he was pacing back and forth in my head. Can we please go for a run? I need to stretch my limbs! I smiled at his request. "Rollings, we can get back to this discussion after I've calmed down a bit. Jackson wants to go for a run. Want to let Skull out too?" Rollings just smirked and we both headed out the back of the pack house and shifted for our run!
